For those of you thinking about doing dry January, you are in for some really positive benefits. And January is the perfect time to do this. Now, I'm one of these people who I love Christmas, like embarrassingly so. As in, like I start putting up my tree not long after Halloween. I love the ribbon, I love the food, I love the gifts, all of it. But by the time I get to January, I'm kind of burnt out on all the excessiveness. And it feels like the perfect time to restart with some new habits, perfect patterns and routines. There's no better time to try a 30 day break from alcohol. Whether you're trying this to get the short term benefits and just like a detox or reset, or maybe you're trying this out because you're trying to figure out, maybe I want to do this whole sobriety thing, maybe I want to stay, stop drinking. Let's talk about both sides of that equation. Doing a 30 day break from alcohol, you can expect a lot of positive rewards. Like, for example, your sleep is going to improve and your mood is going to improve because alcohol is a central nervous system depressant. Once we take alcohol off the top, our mood starts to elevate, it gets better. We have more energy, more motivation, more enthusiasm for things. And then when the sleep kicks in and that gets better, it elevates that even more. It really is hard to tell how much alcohol is affecting you when you're just going about your daily life and it's part of your regular life. But when you get past that more than like a week or two past it, that's why the 30 day thing is a really good reset detox point. Once you get past that first couple of weeks, you really do start to notice all of these positive changes. You may even find that your blood pressure goes down, your hydration is even going to be a lot better because alcohol automatically sort of dehydrates us. When your hydration gets better, your skin is going to look better. You may even find that you lose some weight. A lot of alcohol is very high in calories. You may not even realize it, but you're drinking a lot of extra calories. So when you take that out, you have the added benefit of some extra weight loss. Now, for those of you who are actually consider yourselves like a heavier drinker, you may feel a little worse for the first couple of weeks, but then after that you should start to feel a little bit better each day following. And you may even find that you feel so much better that you decide that you may find that you want to stay sober for even longer. And for those of you who are trying Dry January as sort of a put your toe in the water of feeling out sobriety, whether or not it's you, I want to encourage you to take this break and as you do that I want you to notice how those things start to improve. Now like I said, it may not be better the first few days, but after that you are going to sense noticeable positive changes. I don't think I've ever met anyone who regretted doing the 30 day dry January Challenge. If you've done Dry January in the past or any other 30 day period without drinking, I'd love to hear from you in the comments about what your experience was. Did you have these positive benefits?
