A woman poured out her husband's hidden alcohol while he was in rehab. Amber Hollingsworth explains why controlling someone else's behavior backfires, and suggests setting boundaries around your own actions instead, ideally discussed with your partner or counselor first.
So while my husband was away in.
Rehab, I.
Found all of his alcohol stash and poured it all out.
I was determined to show him that I am serious.
About my boundaries.
When he came home.
He was furious with me.
Did I do the wrong thing? Is that not a.
Healthy boundary?
Well, actually, boundaries.
Are about your behavior not controlling someone else. So by pouring out all of his alcohol, you're actually in his is. I would recommend talking to him while he's in rehab and saying, hey, I think it would be best if I poured out all the alcohol before you got here, so it won't even be a temptation. Is that all right? Or ask to meet with him and the counselor about whether or not that was the best decision to make. No one likes to feel controlled. So when you break it down, pouring out the alcohol doesn't really do anything to fix the situation, and it does cause some relationship damage. These are really hard situations, and I respect you for being able to ask a hard question and be willing to hear the feedback.
