Amber Hollingsworth (speaker) explains how when a person develops an addiction or other major health/problem, they often lose the ability or begin neglecting responsibilities. As a result the family system compensates: another family member steps in, doing more than their regular share (chores, responsibilities), and that burden increases as the person declines further into addiction.
