Four ways to accept compliments without talking too negatively about yourself or being overly self deprecating. You know when someone gives you a compliment and instead of just taking it, you say something bad about yourself unnecessarily? Yeah, no more of that. First approach is to just thank them. If you feel like you want to add a little extra something, you can say, thank you, I really appreciate that. Or thank you, that's so kind of you. Second approach is to tell a story. So let's say someone compliments you on a top or a piece of clothing you have on. You can say, thank you, I actually got this at this amazing sample sale last week. Or thank you, I got this when I was traveling overseas last year and it's one of my favorite pieces. Third approach. And this one's great for a work situation where something might have been a collaborative effort. You can say, thank you so much. It was a true joint effort between myself and several other colleagues or team members. The fourth approach is to pay it forward with a compliment of your own as long as it's genuine. So for example, thank you so much. You look great too. It's so good to see you. Bottom line is to accept the compliment and not rush to be so self deprecating.
