Raele Altano offers a simple exercise for people who overthink before speaking: at a restaurant, order the first menu item that appeals to you. Repeat it to build confidence in low-stakes moments without the paralysis of overanalysis.

Do you have a tendency to under share in your conversations because you are overthinking things so much? I have an exercise for you and for reference, I'm well with Raelle, your communication coach here to help you socialize and articulate with kindness, class and confidence, especially this holiday season. So if you tend to under share because you are overanalyzing every single thing that comes out of your mouth, I want you to try this exercise. Go to a restaurant, look at the menu and order the first thing that looks appealing to you. When the server comes over and asks if you're ready, do not ask for more time to look at the menu. Pick the first thing that seems appealing and go with it. You'll either love the dish or worst comes to worst. You won't and you'll know not to order it again. But this exercise, especially when repeated a few times, will encourage you to say what's on your mind and not overthink every single little thing in a safe and low profile setting. Now, this is not to say that we should say the first thing that comes to mind in everyday conversation, but for those of you who hold back and chronically under share because you're in your own head, this is a great exercise to get out of your shell a little bit. Good luck.
