Raele Altano breaks down a three-step conflict framework called SES: Show empathy, Express your need, and Set the timeline. If you need time to process a disagreement, say "I know you love to solve arguments right away. I need a little bit more time. Can I come back to you in a few hours or a few days?" Taking time doesn't mean something is wrong.

Great question. Thank you for bringing this up. We all have different ways of processing and solving arguments, and sometimes our styles can conflict with other people's styles. So I'd like to offer an idea that has an abbreviation to it. SES show empathy. Express your need and set the timeline. So in this case, show empathy by saying, I know you love to solve arguments right away and have us move through them quickly. Next, express your need. I totally get that, but I need a little bit more time to process everything and just come to terms with how I'm feeling and finally set the timeline. Can I come back to you in a few hours or a few days once I finish thinking through everything and I'm ready to talk? That gives the person a good idea of the time that you need and won't leave them hanging. Also, reiterate that this doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. You just need a little bit more time and would rather take that time rather than rush to solve something and be resentful later. Hope this is helpful.
