Communication coach Raele shares the 10-second fix: only point out things someone can correct in about 10 seconds, like food in their teeth or a turned earring. Skip comments about how tired they look, weight changes, or what their shirt says. It's a simple rule for not being rude.

Here is a great rule of thumb I like to call the 10 second fix when it comes to socializing and interacting with others, especially those you don't know very well. If you notice something about someone and the person can't fix it or correct it in a matter of 10 seconds, don't point it out. So for example, things like you have a little something in your teeth or fix your earring, it's just turned around a little bit are safe versus things like you look tired or you've gained or lost so much weight, what's that saying on your shirt? Aren't quick or temporary adjustments and just shouldn't be mentioned. I love this rule of thumb because it draws a very clear line between what should and shouldn't be mentioned, helps us be considerate of others, and encourages overall social etiquette. I'm well with Raelle, your communication coach and tell me, what do you think about the 10 second fix.
