It makes me so sad when in a conversation a woman immediately brings up her age in a negative way and repeatedly says that she's old or is too old to be doing something. Why lead with that? Why articulate limitation and lack to the person that you're talking to? Because now that's going to be the thing they remember about you, no matter what your actual age is. Usually the women who say this the most have so much life ahead of them. Literally, they are in their 20s, their 30s. They have so much life to live, so much to experience, so much they can do, but they are selling themselves short before anyone else even thought or said anything. Of course there are pros and cons to getting older. Some days might look better than others, but aging in general is a privilege. Getting wiser, getting more mature, knowing yourself better, becoming more stable in your life— these are all good things and shouldn't limit you from trying new things or experiencing things just because it may not be the conventional norm. There are people in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s trying new things, going after their dreams, experiencing life, not letting age limit them. Why are you talking about yourself like that the minute you meet someone new or are in the middle of making a first impression? Making statements about yourself like, oh, I'm too old to pull that off, or I'm so old, I'm like a grandma, only hurt you and the impression you are making about yourself in the long run. It may take some time to reframe your actual perspective on aging, but small tweaks like this in conversation, or when you're introducing yourself or explaining yourself, can be a game changer in your confidence and generally the impression that you make with others. So be mindful. Don't talk bad about yourself or your age, because if you don't say anything, they're less likely to think it. But if you do say something, they will definitely remember it.
