A 12-year-old dog with weak hind legs can walk again with two modified compression socks and bungee cords. The socks slide onto the back legs, one bungee holds them in place while lifting, and another attaches to the collar to prevent slipping. You can manually lift part of the weight when the dog struggles.

So my old boy's back legs have stopped working well. He's almost 13, so I've rigged up this little contraption to give him additional support on his back legs when he's walking. It's a super simple design. That's a Copper Fit, uh, sock that gives you the extra support, and I put one on each side. I had to cut off the end of it so it fits on his legs. On top, I have a single bungee cord with the pointers pointing out so they don't poke him, which gives him support to keep the socks up and give him the back leg support. And then the second bungee is attached to his collar so that it won't slide off the back. And if he's really struggling, I can simply come up here and grab this with my hand because he's tall enough and actually take take some of the pressure off of his back legs. But otherwise, if he's moving pretty good, I just use the leash and let that give him that little bit of support from the front. He still loves going for his walks, and so I wanted to try to do something so he can still get some exercise even with those weak legs and keep himself in a good mood. Hope this might help some of you.
