A creator launching an email etiquette series explains why brevity matters: 50% of work emails are read on phones, people get 100-200 messages daily, and spend 2-6 hours managing inboxes. Keep emails to one paragraph or bullet points so readers can grasp the point fast.

So in celebration of my YouTube channel hitting 5,000 subscribers— yay, thanks everybody for all of your continued support— what I thought I would do is make a new series of videos with a focus on email etiquette. So I'll keep these short and sweet, probably cover a single topic every time. And in this first video, I want to cover 3 really important statistics about the way people are managing email, which should greatly inform inform how you construct email messages. Number 1, did you know that about 50% of all professional emails are read for the first time on one of these right here? Yeah, I'm filming this on my iPhone. People are reading the messages first time on a smartphone, not necessarily on a computer. Second, many people that come to my programs report they're getting 100, 200 emails a day. People are getting flooded with emails. And because of that, many people are reporting 2, 4, 6 hours a day just managing their inbox. And when you take that combination of factors and put it together, I'm just going to give you 4 simple letters: K-I-S-S. Keep it simple, stupid. They've always— you've heard that before, but I'm going to change it to keep it short, stupid. Or maybe just keep it short and sweet. You gotta get to the point. You gotta do it quickly. We're gonna talk more about how to construct these emails better in the future, but the simplest tip is try to be as concise as you can. Understand people are bombed. They don't have time to read 4 to 10 paragraphs of dense prose. What you want to do is be succinct, to the point, and get them the info they need, hopefully in one paragraph or less, possibly even some bullet points. All right. So we'll talk about that more in upcoming videos, but thanks again for helping me get to that 5,000. That's really cool. And watch for more videos in this series, the Email Etiquette microlearning series coming soon. Thanks. Bye everybody.
