Podcast episode (June 2023) featuring Randy Garn in conversation with host Rachel Sheer about living a prosperous, abundant life beyond financial wealth. Topics include Randy's three-part definition of prosperity (money, happiness, sustainability), the importance of relationships and health as foundations of abundance, conscious entrepreneurship (economic model, team, trust), work–life harmony, and practical habits for generosity and intentional daily practices.
Hey, guys. Welcome back to the show. Today I have Randy Garn joining me today. Randy is a New York Times bestselling author, passionate entrepreneur and business builder. He works closely with and advises some of the world's most recognized CEOs, companies, thought leaders and experts. Now, one thing I love most about Randy is he's not just all business and creating wealth, although that is something he is amazing at. He's really about creating a prosperous life. He's huge on relationships and love. And that's something I am so passionate about talking about because really, my mastermind evolved mentorship. The evolution is all about how can we create more of an abundant life. Yes, wealth is a component of abundance, but it's so much more than that. It is truly the relationships. It's about getting around people who reflect back to the greatness that's inside of you. It's your health, which your health is the foundation for every single area in your life. It is living in spirit, living a life of inspiration. It is adding value and serving so many people. So in today's episode, Randy and I talk all of what it means to live a prosperous life and how you can really take your business to the next level by thinking from a give type mindset instead of a get type mindset. You guys are going to love today's episode and this is sheer madness. Do you guys know how difficult it is to find a high quality supplement line that doesn't just destroy your gut? Most pre workouts and post workouts or even like on the go snack options like beef jerky or protein bars, they're terrible for your gut health. They're full of xanthan gum and guar gums and fillers and artificial sweeteners which disrupt your gut microbiome and lead to chronic bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and not to mention when our gut is off, all the other symptoms like hormone imbalances, thyroid issues, mental health issues. Which is why I'm just obsessed about gut health. But anywho, I have not been able to find a good supplement line out there. And I had to cut out all of these fitness type supplements when I was really struggling with a lot of my own gut issues. Until recently, I found Paleo Valley. And Paleo Valley is one of the first supplement companies that hands down is incredible for your gut health. Whether you're on a gut healing journey or you're someone who just wants to optimize your gut health and overall health. Their founder, Autumn, actually suffered with IBS herself, so she created this entire supplement line specifically to be gut friendly. And I'm not lying with you guys. Their whey protein powder, which is grass fed and finished gum free, artificial sweetener free, no issues, no bloating, no constipation, no diarrhea, no upset stomach, which is literally like the first time in my entire life that I've not had issues with a protein powder. And they even have super yummy grass fed and finished beef jerky sticks which are made with a collagen CAS instead of the typical citric acid casing, which is terrible for your gut health. And if you want to try out some of their other products that even have a bone broth protein powder, I love adding that into whether it's like my oatmeal in the morning or my protein shakes. And literally tastes like the Nestle hot chocolate powders, if you ever had those as a kid, which were not gut friendly. And then they have great supplements too, like their apple cider vinegar capsules or even their turmeric capsules which are great for inflammation and gut health. So if you want to get a discount, you can use my code using the link in the show notes here, which is paleovalley.com Rachelsheer podcast. But all of that's going to be in the show notes, so check out the supplement line. Because guys, you know me, I would not have this on my podcast if it was not awesome and gut friendly. One thing I really love about your content is it's not just business content. From what I see. Like I, I feel like I see you all the time like, like always riding horses or like fishing and doing just different things like that. And I'm like, man, this guy has an awesome life. And I feel like you don't see that a lot with entrepreneurs online. It's just very strict business content usually.
Right?
Yeah.
Cool. I mean, yeah, for me it's, it's life is business and business is life. And if I'm not enjoying what I'm doing and having a blast, I have to. I literally, like several years ago I figured out, you know, what makes me happy and also what is the things that can help drive productivity. A lot of things that you see in me do is to drive relationships and so there's a purpose behind it. But for me, like my most important thing in my whole entire life is my family. Like I am never ever, ever I am my, I'm my two boys flag football coach. You know, they're 11 year old and I every, every Monday and Thursday night, like I'm Coaching flag football and Saturday and like, that's like one of the funnest things I get to do. It's so awesome. And I'm gonna make sure that I do amazing at business and I'm never going to sacrifice my family.
Yeah, I love that, that you know, that that's such a huge core value for you. Because I think very often when people get into business, they're not very aware of what their core values are. And it's easy to have this grandiose idea of how can I make as much money and scale and grow and create this huge business? And then we sacrifice or we see people sacrifice relationships. Their health is a byproduct. And I was at a mastermind one time and I forget who the speaker was, but he said, you know, it's, you could be the richest person in the graveyard. And I feel like that's how a lot of people view business is. They're just like, what can I do to get ahead? And I think something that I love about just following you because I'm still getting to know you personally and here on this podcast, but it's that you really emulate abundance in your life. And abundance is something that I'm super passionate about talking about. It's something that if you look at my social media and a lot of the talks that I give, I talk about how can we start to actually create and live an abundant life instead of just make as much money as possible. Because abundance is really a state of being. It's a state that we step into and it is relationships, like you said, but it's also health. It's our relationship we have with God. It's the relationship we have with ourselves. And I think more people really need to be after abundance instead of just financial prosperity. But you talk a lot about prosperity and I know you have a book where it's fully about prosperity, and I feel like that aligns a lot too with abundance. But how would you define prosperity then?
That's a good question. You know, I define, I define prosperity as this. It is, it's the balance between money, happiness and sustainability. So it's a three, it's a three legged stool. But you said, you know, you don't want to be the richest person in the graveyard. You don't want to be. And you also don't want to be sitting on a ton of pile of cash. And nobody wants to be with you or spend time with you. Right. So it is for me, like, I love business, I love entrepreneurship, I love, you know, I Do love the opportunity to do well financially. And I think it's so important that your mind, like part of abundance and part of prosperity is actually wealth. You know, it is. A lot of people think that, man, if I want to be happy, I can't be wealthy. That's a false thought. That's that, that's thinking. Thinking is what I call it. Yeah. And I don't think that, that being happy is ensuring that what you're doing, you were meant to do. And it's your core competency and it's what you do well at and it's what makes you unique. And you love it. You absolutely love it. And so understanding how to make money and the things that make you happy are critical dot com. It's so important. And then the third piece to the prosperity is, is it sustainable? Is it good for the customers? Is it good for the client? Is it healthy? Is it good for you? Because if you can't, you can't make money and you're just happy. It's just a hobby. But if you can make money and do it happy, you're also going to do it for longer periods of time. A lot of people are like grasshoppers, great on takeoff. You never know where they're going to land. Dude, I'm going to do this. Hey, I'm going to do this, you know, so, and, and because of that, they, they're seeking for happiness and their wealth will go down because they're not completely focused on the things that will make the most impact at that time. So for me, prosperity is that, that's that three legged stool.
Yeah. It's really loving what you do. I think too like doing it consistently for a good period of time and it sounds like too like something that really aligns with the life that you want for yourself as well. And I agree in terms of, you know, wealth is a form of abundance, but it's not the only form of abundance. And I think that's what we tend to look at as abundance overall too. And I, I hear as well like living in inspiration is something that's super important and something that I really strive for. Like when I, I just launched my business back in 2016, like I launched it from a place of being so inspired about what I wanted to do. And I'm not gonna lie, there's been points in my business where I lost a lot of the inspiration and I noticed that led to more burnout in what I was doing. So part of abundance for me now is really how can I live in Inspiration as much as possible, which I define inspiration as really being in spirit and everything that I do and operating from that place. And it makes things a lot easier. And I think too, it's. I get to work on my business and less of, I have to work on my business. And I think anytime someone is coming from the place of I have to, then they can only stick with it for so long. Same thing in fitness and nutrition. Like, I have to eat healthy, I have to go work out. Well, no wonder you keep yo yoing all over the place because you feel like you have to work out and you have to eat healthy. No, like, I get to, and I love to, and I enjoy to. So I think part of the equation, too, is also operating from that place. So I love that.
And I love. I love what you teach and what you do, is that you are helping people give so healthy physically, mentally and emotionally. And it's so tied. You know, I. And I told you, like, I. I love. Dude, I'm doing two triathlons this year. Like, I love. I've gotta stay. Like, my energy is so important to me. I have to work out every single morning. I've got to get out and get some vitamin D in. Because a lot of times in life you don't have a time management issue. You have an energy issue. Whenever people say, like, I don't have time, it's like, are you tired? Like, how do you, like, let's. Let's figure that. Like, is your mind tired? Are you emotionally tired? Are you physically tired? So you have to, like, I always, like, what is the state that you're in? Are you living in a beautiful state? And that's one of the things that I love listening to Tony and learning from Tony is like, are we living in a beautiful state, that state of abundance? You know, when I. When I was growing up, my dad was a high school football coach. Everybody calls me Coach Karn, high school football coach for 33 years. Like, we used to literally, we would say family prayers and we'd all put it in and we'd be like, go, guards. And that's like, that's what we do every morning. And so I think about one of the things he taught me and. And it's a back to your point of the law of abundance. He always would say, randy, learn to do as much as you can for as many people as you can, as often as you can, and expect nothing in return. I always thought about that. I didn't ever get it until, like, you know, probably like 20 years ago. And when I did get that and when I started to understand that, that's when that whole law of reciprocity, call it karma, call it abundance, whatever it is, karma brings abundance. The law of reciprocity will bring that abundance that you talk about. Napoleon Hill talks about it. So I think that's such an important state. If anybody asks, like, who is Randy Garn? This is what I do. I do as much as I can for as many people as I can, as often as I can. And I always put people above things.
Where do you feel like you learned that from? Because I feel like that's something that is not taught very often. I know for me, it's something that I had to learn. Like, I grew up broke. We foreclosed on our home as a kid. So I was, like, the person of, like, whatever. I made young, like, hoard, hold on to everything. So I was, like, the last person to operate in that capacity. So for me, it's actually been something that I've had to learn and which I believe we learn those things through, you know, proving it to yourself with small wins, like giving more and giving more and seeing really how that reciprocity works, but also how much it gives back to you ten times over again. And not necessarily always in, like, a monetary form. There's so many other ways that it gives back to you and really feeds your soul in a lot of ways. But where do you feel like you learned that from?
No, I did. I did. I probably learned a lot of it from. From my father. You know, he's still my hero. He's still an amazing man. I think he's gonna. He's going straight to heaven, for sure. And not everybody had an amazing father like that. And so I just. I feel so, so blessed that I had a father and mother that really taught me those things, those core principles of learning to serve. You know, I always say, serve before yourself. Learn to give to give. And so if you think about. If you think about it, where I learned. Where I learned it from was from reading. And from the first business that I started was a really amazing company that we did learning and training and development for Nightingale Kona, which was Zig Ziglar, Dennis Whaley, you know, all of the greats. When I was, like, 24 years old, we flew out, we landed a really awesome contract with them, and that company grew, and we grew a really, really large coaching and training company. But I learned it from watching others, and I learned it from reading amazing books. But I didn't put it into practice until probably about 2008 and 9. Truly put it, I learned it. But there's a humongous difference, Rach. There's a huge difference between yeah, something and the application of that. Learning is where the change happens. How many people do we know go to tons of events, buy every single book that's out there. But until you apply that in your life, you will not have the chemical change to be in a state of abundance. You can learn about it, you can teach about it, you can train about it, but until you actually practice, won't happen. And when I started practicing it, I started to change. My countenance changed, my joy changed, my happiness changed, my relationships changed, my bank account changed. That is the difference between learning something and applying something.
So many of you guys know my story of losing my health. Dealing with hormonal imbalances, thyroid issues, depression, anxiety and gut issues that were so severe I almost had my entire large intestine removed. And western medicine completely failed me. They gave me trash can diagnosis like IBS depression, gave me a bunch of medications and you know, if I wouldn't have taken my health in my own hands today, I would be without an entire organ, like literally. And that's why I created what I wish I had, what I needed. A holistic mind and body approach, a functional medicine approach. That said, why do we have this problem in the first place and what can we do to restore function? This is the difference between thriving instead of just surviving and managing your symptoms. I've watched my dad, you know, I know this is how things work, but really making the shift to, okay, I'm going to really apply this in my life because I feel like for a lot of people listening, they're in the place where they're obviously listening to podcasts. You guys are listening to this podcast today, but they have a lot of this information. But when it really comes down to the application of it, we don't always apply it.
Yeah, you know, a couple of things happen just through living life. You know, our company was going nuts. We went entrepreneur of the year with Ernst and Young, whole bunch of things. And then 2008 hit, like, and. And we had to make some huge shifts. We had to make some huge changes. And it's just like, you know, things were very, very abundant and. And all of a sudden it's just like the economy changes and, and things move. Like you think about COVID and what's happening. A lot of change that happens, you know, some succeeded more. So you. So you go through different cycles. And I think that going through difficulties and going through tri trials will make. Give you the character that you need to change. You'll either become bitter or you'll become better. And so I think through. Through some of that, we had to make some and really, really big changes. And it's just like, man, we could be in. We could be bankrupt. We could be, you know, we have a really. Make some really, really hard. And I always say it's not the size of the problem, it's the size of the person that matters. And so I think from that, it was like, you know what? I'm going to stop thinking about money, and I'm going to start thinking about those that we're serving and growing and giving to. And I start thinking about all of our employees. We're going to start thinking about everybody. We stopped taking, you know, we really stopped taking paychecks and things like that. It's like, right, how do I now put this into practice? That was a really, really just amazing time that I will never, ever, ever forget because I we much. And so there's seasons in your life that you go through that really help you with those growth things. And it's usually some of the harder times and the darker times that give you the strength that you need to go to that next level and that next step. You know, another. Another thing that happened to me that really, really impacted me is when I was getting ready for the Kona Half Iron Man, a few years ago, I got ran over by a car while I was riding my bike. Guy ran a red light, was texting and driving, ran right over top of me. And I remember when I got here.
Ran over by the whole car.
The whole car ran over my chest, my legs.
Oh, my goodness.
Disaster. I remember thinking when I get ran over, I was like, man, if I don't die, my wife's gonna kill me when I get home. Like, am I gonna be paralyzed? It was like slow motion. It was like.
First thought of a man, my wife's gonna go, me.
I know. For real. I got six kids. I got two sets of twins, you know, and it's like. It was that moment. I was just like, what matters most, Randy? It was like, what. What truly matters most. And it's not things that's, like, for me, abundance is like. For me, abundance is the wealth of my friends. And those that I'm closest to know that. And I think abundance is true love. And your friends know they can trust you. They know your weaknesses, your faults. But true abundance for me is the wealth and richness of amazing humans that are my friends and that are my inner circle. That is my true wealth, my two riches, my true abundance. And I always say, like, if I lost everything today, every amount of work, like, take my cars, take my bank account, take my home, and drop me on an island somewhere. Rachel, I promise you, within six months, just don't take my friends away from me. In six months, I will be back to the same stock, maybe even better, because that is. You have to understand the velocity of relationships, which I call vor is like, that is true abundance for me is the richness and deafness and abundance of my friends. And that. It's like that. Mi casa, su casa. My friends know that. And so for me, that is like, true wealth and true health is our greatest joys and our greatest sorrows come from our friends and our relationships.
I think that's so incredible that you bring up relationships, because on my podcast, I talk so often about health and health really being the foundation, foundation for everything. Your health creates your wealth. It's really a healing reveal, which is why I talk both about entrepreneurship and health overall. But really, hearing someone talk more about that relationship piece overall and how that is really the foundation for abundance and how that plays such a huge role and not just your success in business. Like of course it does. Right? Of course it plays a huge role in your success in business. But even beyond that, like it doesn't even matter that much if you have the right people in your life, if you're around people who you truly love and you enjoy. Because that's why we bust our ass anyway. At least I think most people do. It's like, yes, it's great to have a nice car. I just got my G Wagon a few years ago. It was like my dream car. It's nice to have a great home. But if you're driving the G Wagon alone, if you're in this huge, incredible mansion by yourself, it's like, what's the point that's so empty at the end of the day. And then we can't enjoy any of those things either. If our health is absent, you know, if our health is absent, we can't enjoy relationships. If our health is absent, we can't even enjoy the things that we have. So our health really has to be that foundational piece. I always like to think of, you know, some of the my core values is how it really feels in the body. And every time I think of health, because I used to just say health is my core value, but really it is that potential. It's potential in my body. I feel it as potential. Like if I were to be in a meditation, I could feel, feel potential. That really comes from health. And if you've ever experienced where you've been in burnout, which most entrepreneurs have at some point in their life, I have before too, or have been sick or in that place that you don't feel any potential there. All you can think about is I need to get out of this place. We're in survival mode. And you can't think about abundance or prosperity or relationships. It's very much in a, a self centered place because you're sick ultimately at the end of the day. So I think first, you know, getting your health right, moving your body, exercising, just like what you said is the catalyst for all of these other areas. And then from there building upon it with the right relationships, getting around the right people getting around people who reflect back to you, the greatness inside of you. Because that's something I speak about too. Like there are certain people I get around and not going to lie, I don't know if you've experienced this, but I feel energy drained by around some people. And I do believe like we bring a certain energy you know, we can add value always to any person that we meet. But there are certain people you get around, and you can leave feeling worse about yourself. You can leave feeling depleted about yourself. And then there are certain people you get around and you feel empowered, you feel inspired, and you want to do more with your life and you want to give back to them. And I always say, pay close attention to your energy, right? Pay close attention to your energy, because that will tell you, is this person really adding to my life or taking away? Because the people you surround yourself with should fill your cup up, not leave you feeling drained and depleted.
A hundred percent, Rachel. A hundred percent. It's like I always say, like, who use, you know, and it's like who you surround yourself is literally who you, who you become. And, and I also also think this is not just about the people that you hang around. I always think it's like you become the five most things that you think about.
That's good.
So what are the five most things that you're thinking about every single day? You know, you got to check yourself before you wreck yourself, you know, And I try to. I journal every night, and I, I, I simply ask these three questions every night. Like, every night before I go to bed, you know, about an hour before I go to bed, to help me kind of wind down and get things, I, I set my intention for the next day, and I do a review. But I always ask myself, like, what are the five most important things I can do today, the next day? Like, what are the things I have to do? And then the next thing I ask myself is like, who are five people, who are five individuals that I need to reach out to? And that could be a handwritten note, that could be a video on my phone, that could be a text, that could be like, I'm just checking in, seeing how you're doing, what's happening? That could be sending them a gift. That could be all those things. And then the third thing I asked myself is, what miracles? And, and how did I see the hand of God in my life today? And that also helps me stay in a, you know, a state of abundance as well, is that I do believe in angels. And I think being living in a state of abundance for me too, is that also understanding that I am not in charge? I can do the best that I can, but I really do believe that I am like, you know, clay in the potter's hand. And it's just like, God, I want to be, I want to be a tool for God. I really Do I want to be a light and an amazing vessel to help lift and build others through this life? And that, for me, is living in a state of abundance. If I can be used as a great tool and an instrument, you know, to help other people, like, feel better, be better, get more happiness, gain more wealth, get in that state of abundance. I feel like anything that's good comes from God. And I. And I think that actually is. I believe that. That there is a state of abundance in that.
Yeah. 100. And I. I can imagine too, like, the state that that puts you in.
Yeah.
And getting in the next day instead of just looking at the things that you have to do. Because I've heard, like, the practices from the high performance books and summits out there. Right. Of. Right. The three big needle movers that you need to focus on, you know, the next day to get those done and create the list. But. And then list out the gratitude, which is always great to do. Focus on the things that you're grateful for. But I think what was so interesting about your. You said evening routine. You did this before bed. Yeah. Your evening routine is that you also encompass. Who are five people that I can add value to, I can reach out to, given an acknowledgement to. And, you know, something at my church that was talked about here just this last weekend for my pastor was really about, you know, how to be a blessing. Blessing to all people in your life. And one was one, of course, be a blessing to all people, you know, and that encompassed your words really matter and that there are certain people that need your blessing and that your tongue really does matter and the things that you say. And there are certain people that are actually craving. They are craving your blessing, your acknowledgment, your affirmation, and for you just to speak life into them and to really bless somebody in that way, like, you have no idea, really needs to hear that. And the number two that he actually talked about was ask for blessings in your life. Like, actually ask people. And I thought that was so interesting because it was like, be okay to say, hey, your blessing would mean the world to me. Would you mind giving me a blessing? And I was like, ooh, that's scary to do. Like, But I was like, you know, how. How cool. Like, if someone came up to me and they were like, rachel, your word means so much to me. Would you bless me? Like, of course I would in a heartbeat. But I thought, you know, how incredible is that to, like, not only receive, like, be okay to receive, but also to give and then he also talked about not leaving anybody unblast. So even bless the unblushable being okay to, like, get down and bless people. Right? And that's very biblical of the people you sometimes think don't deserve it, but being even willing to add value to all of that. So that just reminded me of that so much of you talking about, who are the five people I can reach out to and add to every single day? Because you never know who may need to hear that and also how that comes back to you. And I'm sure you're not doing it, because, okay, what am I going to get as a byproduct of this? But I bet there's a lot that you do get from that.
Oh, man. I mean, 100%. In fact, the call that I was just on before you was. Was exactly that. It was somebody that I'd met. And. And honestly, they became a blessing in my life, and vice versa. Just. Just recently, you never know who the treasure map to the treasure is. You never know who that one relationship you're going to meet that may need you or that you may need them, and you never know when that's going to be. So I just think that it's important to understand that when you're living the law of abundance is how do you learn to give to give and not give to take? Because so many people, really, it's like, all they think about is what's in it for me? Like, what's. You know, that. And so as soon as you stop thinking that way. But the thing is, like, I. One of the things that I do love with people is I'm completely honest with them, too, because a lot of people call me Coach Garn. You want to love people, and I think loving is also being really, really honest with them. True friends, like, will tell you exactly where you're at. Like, real friends will be like, dude, let me tell you where some of your blind spots are. Let me tell you what's happening. I can't tell you how many people, like, have respect for me, because I will say that to them in a loving, kind way. But it's hard to do if they don't know that you love them or you want something from. Or that. But when you are in that state, you can really, really bless people's lives. When you. When you help them, go to another state. You know, my family motto is, me lift the. And be Lift me, and we'll ascend together. And so it's like, how do you. How do you help each other go to another higher level, you know?
Yeah. I think that's also interesting that you talk about giving to not get, because I feel like a lot of people learn the law of you have to give in order to get, and then they kind of go through the motions. I know I've had people, like, reach out to me and they're like, hey, what can I do for you? How can I have value? But, you know, energy speaks very largely. And, you know, when someone's like, saying, how can I add value to you? Because they really want something in return. And I think a lot of people really do go through the motions, and then they don't get the byproduct of, like, what they're really looking for. They don't get the result, which is to receive, but they're really giving to get. They just understand that they can't just ask for what they want because they've at least developed enough knowledge to know that I have to at least give something in order to get. So, yeah, I like the notion of can you just truly give? To give and expect nothing in return? Because that is really how abundance truly operates. And you are getting in something in return. Right. So miracles is really giving. And there is this exchange that is given back between the other person. It's not necessarily I'm getting what I wanted, this exact thing, but there is still, I am getting something back from this tenfold over again. So I thought that was really cool that you mentioned that. I'm reading the book right now. Think and Grow Rich. I've actually never read it before. I'm not sure if you've read that book before. I feel like you probably have you ever had to have read that book? Everyone's read that book before, but I'm reading that book. And now every time you are talking about different things, I'm like, oh, yeah, this, this, right? Like tapping into love, tapping into different energies, faith, and being able to combine those different emotions with the desires that you want and how that's so powerful. But for you, what would you say are some of the most important things you have learned as an entrepreneur? I'd say a conscious entrepreneur, because you're someone who is very conscious. You know, it's about abundance versus not just about creating wealth. But what are some things you have learned on your journey as being a conscious entrepreneur that has really helped you create success or prosperity? Any tips?
Yeah, I think. I mean, I think for me it really boils down to three things. Is, what is your economic model? What's your. What's your business model? Like how do you earn money? How do you, you got to learn how to either make or save people money. Like what, what is your strategy? And if you can't answer me those things like how are, how are you going to grow? How are you going to scale? What is your business model? I talk about all day long, every day. You know, how, how it, how are you going to make or save people money? And what, what is your economic engine? Because if you're, if you are an entrepreneur, whether you're coaching, whether you're a solopreneur, Whether you're a CEO of a 50 million dollar company or 400 million dollar company, it's like you have to figure out your economic engine. Marketing sells fulfillment. You got to figure out demand creation and demand fulfillment and they got to be really, really good together to have massive growth. So that's the number one thing I'm going to ask you is like, tell me how you're going to make or save people money. And you have to answer that on a good strategic. You have to really, really answer that question for me. Second is who do you need on your team? Like, who's on your team? Like, are you going to do this alone or are you going to be a really, really good team player? I love building teams. I love leadership. I think leadership is so critical, especially now is like, do you have courage? Are you able to speak your mind? You know, are you able to actually build and grow a team? You know, can you help raise necessity in your organization or company? Do you do what you say you're going to do? So you got to find those, those team members in your, in your business as an entrepreneur, you got to find somebody that understands marketing. You got to find somebody that understands sales. You got to find somebody that understands legal. You got to find somebody that understands finance. And you know what, you got to find somebody now that understands technology. And they all got to be really, really good. And too many times I have too many people that they try to be cheap on who they hire. I'm like, dude, if you want a great company, you hire the very, very best. And I never, ever, ever hire somebody that's out of work. I always go recruit the best. I never, if they're out of work, I don't hire them. That's just one of my, that's one of my personal constitutions. It's like they have to be in that, that place, you know, and, and it depends on, you know, if they already had an exit or whatever. And you're recruiting them. So, yeah, so that's number two. Number three is can you trust them? I mean, do they have real character? And so as you're building your company, I'd always ask your, you know, really ask yourself those three things. What's your economic engine? Who's your team? And ensure that there's just impeccable unity, trust and support within. Because like entrepreneurship is, it is completely so fun and so exciting and. But it is a bottle. It's bananas, it's exciting, it's hard, it's draining, and it's so exciting and exhilarating all at the same time. I love it more than anything. And I love helping founders, I love helping entrepreneurs. I love mentoring them and helping them just grow and scale. Like, we have so many great leadership models. And so I think it's, I think those would be, those would be my three big things. Words of advice for anybody is know your business model, build a million amazing team and ensure that there's an amazing amount of trust.
I feel like I'm in number two where you're at right now. Not in trying to hire somebody cheap, but I'm in the point in my own business where we're growing it and we're scaling, but we only have so much capacity on my team, where we actually need to bring in some more people right now. But it is scary bringing somebody in where it's like, okay, right, because profits go, go down because you're employing somebody completely brand new on your team, but also that person has the potential to take the business to the very next level. And I'm right at that point right now in, in my marketing because I've just done kind of like different sources that I've utilized, but actually bringing someone on to be more of like a cmo. And it's like, oh my gosh, can I really, like, take this next jump? But that's what really is going to be needed to get to the next level. So I'll have to reach out to you about that. So I totally understand that. And I think that's what even keeps a lot of businesses stuck at a certain level. Right? Because it's like, yes, we want to work as efficient as possible all the time, but if we don't have one, how are we adding value to people in every way? And so we're on two different sides. The health, the heal, and the reveal. So there is, there's like the healing, the root cause analysis, which is the foundation for wealth, but then there's stepping into for a lot of the longevity of my business. People end up getting more into wanting to start their own fitness and health and nutrition business and scale it to, you know, multiple six figures. And it's really cool to see that bridge between the two. But, yeah, I'm definitely at that number two place.
Right? Yeah, you need to build a team.
Building a team. Yeah, building a team. I mean, right now we have a team of eight, so, like, we're. We're already a pretty decent team, but, like, even growing it beyond that, with a goal of potentially franchising here at the end of this year. But I won't take up too much of the space for this podcast for myself and be selfish.
You know it. You feel it? It is.
I feel it. Yeah. That's why I'm connecting so much with what you're saying.
Yeah. And that's why, like, people don't understand abundance. It's not about you, it's about everyone that surrounds you. It is like, does your team fully engage and are they all rowing in the same direction and are they all pumped? Are they, you know, what's their engagement level? Are they at 60, 40, 100%? So I mean that if there's anything that I do, I help get teams just rocking and rolling. That is what I love more than anything, because it's about the human element. And if you get good people, you will have the best product.
Yeah, I love that. In terms of work life balance, I feel like you have to have some awesome tips for this giving that you're always fishing and on horses and with family. How do you go about work life balance while still achieving all of your dreams?
You know, I think I'm. I. You have to be. As a high performer, you have to be very efficient with your time. And I work in blocks. I. I don't know if I actually, I don't. As an entrepreneur and. And even as a high performer and somebody that's trying to squeeze the drop out of every single day, out of every single drop of life, I have actually more of a work life harmony than a work life balance, because I don't know if I'd ever be balanced.
Yeah.
I don't know if it ever is for anybody. Like, if I have eight hours, you know, or if I have 12 hours in a day, I'm gonna work four in the business, four on my family, four on my spiritual side, and I'm gonna find time to sleep somewhere. For me, it's actually kind of more of a work life harmony where I'm including my kids in my Work, I'm doing stuff with my family. Like I'm gonna possibly when we go on family vacation, I've gotta jump on a call. My wife understands that. But it allow do certain things. So for me it's like more of a work. It's more of like work life harmony that I'm doing stuff that I love and so that I'm not in a place where I'm always stressed out. Oh my gosh. I have to, like you talked about, I have to do this. I have to do this. Oh my gosh. I have to work for these eight hours and. And this is going to do it. No, I'm more of a like a work life harmony. I'm going to make sure that my day was completely a day of fulfillment and that I ran the day, the day didn't run me, and that it is in harmony with who I am doing that, who I am and that do. When I get home, I shut things down. I spend time, I'm present. I think being like having a harmony as you're present at the task you're doing, I think that's actually a big, big key to it. So anyway, that's, that's my philosophy, actually. It's more of a work life harmony than a balance.
I'm gonna steal that and start using that instead. Work life harmony. Because I agree. I don't think there's ever necessarily necessarily a balance. I think it's like a bunch of juggling balls. And some of these are rubber balls and some of these are glass balls. And there are certain balls that, right, you can drop them. Like you can drop some balls in your life and they'll bounce back up. But there are certain things like your health and relationships that I view these as glass balls and you can drop those, but it'll crack. And if you keep dropping those, eventually they will shatter and beyond repair very, very often. So I do think it is less of a balance. But learning how to juggle these balls, but also knowing which one in your life are these glass balls where you really can't drop these balls, you really need to make sure that this is always a priority in your life. And I'm sure too, as long as you are very intentional with your time and you're also making sure like the things that are important to you remain important in spite of everything else you have going on in your business. You're making sure that your kids, your wife, everybod feels loved. Then it's less of having it balanced because it's more about my intention is really there on what I really want them to feel every single day and the things that are most important to me. So I just wanted to add that to that.
Powerful, powerful. I 100. 100% agree.
Yeah. This has been an awesome podcast. I would love to chat longer, but I know you gotta catch or not catch a flight. You're going to pick up.
