Alex Swenson walks through what high school athletes should do each year to get recruited. Freshmen focus on skills and grades. Sophomores build a highlight video and contact coaches. Juniors increase outreach while maintaining visibility. Seniors broaden their school targets if recruitment isn't moving.
Chapters
This is the high school recruiting process from freshman year to senior year and what to do each year. Freshman year, ninth grade. Get acclimated with your high school and your high school team. Understand what the coaches are looking for and how you can help the team win. Then we have the foundation of the recruiting process, which is skill development, weight training, mental skills and of course, good grades. You want to start off strong freshman year with good grades. Then we have sophomore years when things really pick up. You want to have a good, strong recruiting profile. You want to have good video showcasing your best qualities as a player. You want to reach out to these college coaches, let them know where you're going to be from your schedule wise. And then we want to consider certain camps, ID camps, showcases to get in front of these college coaches. These coaches can't recruit you if they don't know about you. And that's where you have to be proactive. And then we have junior year. This is when a lot of commitments happen, but it's what you do before the junior year that will help you get committed going through this. So you want to continue to reach out to these college coaches. You're going to have phone calls, you're going to have text messages and you want to ask thoughtful questions like what's the day in the life like as a student athlete at your school? Or how do you help your athletes on and off the field? How heavy are you in the transfer portal? And you want to make sure that you're keeping your grades up and visibility up as well. Senior year. If you're not getting any traction, we need to look at different levels that than what you're looking at and making sure that you are reaching out to as many schools as you can at all different levels. Good luck.
