When a college coach calls, here is exactly what to say. 📞

Former Division-1 coach Alex Swenson breaks down what high-school athletes should say when college recruiters call. Lead with your team status and top stats, have your GPA and major ready, then ask coaches three things: what's daily life like, what positions do you need, and how does your program develop players.

When a college coach calls, here's exactly what to say. Be ready, be prepared. As a former D1 coach who's made hundreds, if not thousands, of these calls, there's nothing worse than losing momentum because the athlete wasn't ready. But here's the thing, to even get on the phone with a college coach, you have to know how to get there. I show you exactly how, step by step, in my 30-Day Recruit Ready Challenge. Doors are open right now. They close September 30th. We start together on October 1st. Comment recruit, start getting traction in the recruiting process today. Now let's go over the exact questions coaches are going to ask and a few you should ask them back. First, they're going to ask you, how's your season going? Spring, summer, fall, winter, whatever season you're in, be ready. And here's the order you should talk: team first, how's the team doing, then your individual stats, and only highlight your best stats. You don't need to read off the whole Uh, stat line. And then number 2, how are your grades? Know your grades, your GPA off the top of your head. Keep your GPA up. This can be a deal breaker before the conversations even gets started. Third, are you thinking about majors yet? You don't need to know exactly, but you need to have thought about it. I've been looking at business, maybe finance or communication. That shows you've done your homework and you're thinking ahead. Now it's a 2-way street, so ask them a few questions as well. Number 1, what's the day in the life like for a player in your program for the fall, the winter, the spring, the summer? Number 2, what are you looking for in my position? It's an open-ended question. Let them talk. And number 3, how is development in your program? Not just for my position, but weight training, academically. Answer those 3, ask those 3, and your athlete walks off the call remembered. Getting on the call in the first place, that's the challenge. Comment recruit. Doors close September 30th. And we start together October 1st. See you soon.
