D1 Baseball Recruiting Changes for 2025 (Contact Period Starts)

Alex Swenson (former D1 coach, recruiter) explains the 2025 Division I NCAA baseball recruiting calendar, clarifying what the quiet, contact, dead, and shutdown periods allow or prohibit. He advises high-school players to begin recruiting in sophomore year, explains that coaches can evaluate and communicate (call/text/email) during quiet and contact periods but cannot make official offers before the August 1 date, and distinguishes dead periods (no in-person recruiting) from shutdown (no contact at all). The video includes a call-to-action to his Premier Athletes site for personalized help.

Hey, how you doing, Alex here. Thanks for joining me. In today's episode, we're going to be talking about the 2025 Division 1 NCAA recruiting calendar. That is a mouthful there, but I'm going to clear a lot of things up as far as when to start the recruiting process. What do all these periods mean? The contact period, the quiet period? Because there's a lot of confusion of what that is. And it makes sense because the name is kind of deceiving. Like the quiet period, which we will talk about, doesn't mean college coaches can't talk to you. They can actually talk to you. But I'm going to get into that here in a minute and just really every aspect of this from a recruiting calendar. Again, when to start this recruiting process, you might think, am I too early or am I too late? And we're going to be talking about when to start. If you're new to my channel, my name is Alex Swinson. I'm A former Division 1 college coach, scout and recruiter with 11 years of experience. And now what I do is help high school baseball players and their parents navigate this college recruiting process and put them in the best possible position to play at the next level. Help them find schools that are recruiting, their position in their class, finding fits for them not only athletically, but academically, geographically, financially, all those things, and help them with the exposure process. The name of the game is college coaches knowing about you because they can't recruit players that they don't know about. So help getting exposure, getting on the radars of these college coaches to the right communication in this new landscape of recruiting to showcases and camps, which ones are worth it, which ones are not. There's a lot of, a lot of money makers out there that we avoid. Also, like highlight videos. We'll put together a highlight video, really every aspect of this. And if you are looking for more personal help, please visit my website. Down in the description, it's Premier athletes co and you can set up a call with me there and we can go from there and see if this is a good fit. With that being said, let's talk a little bit about when should you start the recruiting process to make sure that you're not behind the eight ball. It's never good in any situation to kind of feel like you're trying to really play catch up. So sophomore year is definitely the time because college coaches are really starting to watch players, especially at the Division 1 level. And there's some, there's some sayings and I hear I've heard this before. It's like, oh well I'm not going to really get started until that August 1st date because they can't necessarily talk to me or offer me and that's not exactly correct. The offer part is correct. But they can hey come watch you play. They can read emails. They can hey have a have your get your schedule. Come watch you whether it's at your high school or at your tournaments. They can't just really offer you until that August one day. But they're going to do all that work prior to that. Especially if you're an athlete. They want to move on that August 1st date. I've had a lot of athletes in the classes ahead maybe of you that that August one day. Well they, they were communicating because they can communicate with you like at showcases and at camps. They can talk to you. They just can't offer you until that August one day. But they're going to watch you evaluate you all those things prior to that. So sophomore year definitely get the ball rolling because that's a good time. Freshman year might be a little too early. Get acclimated with your high school team to with get just get comfortable with what your team and coach is looking for. What doing you're what's the best path for you from a recruiting you could start looking at schools. But as far as really getting the ball rolling sophomore year, if you're a junior and you're like oh man, it's good just hey we got to get the ball rolling now as we go through this process just so hey, we get start getting your name out there. Because the two things we're fighting in the recruiting process is time and recruiting spots available. There's a window and then there's only so many spots each team guys are going to be bringing in. So with that being said, let's go over the this as of this recruiting calendar and as of this recording we are in February of 2025 which is right here this August through December 2024. And then we are going be talking about all this here in all of these colors. So wherever you're watching or I guess should say when, whenever you're watching this, which is weird to say this will make sense to you and clarify thing. So we are in the tan here which means the quiet period. So there is a lot of confusion about what the quiet period means. It's a bad name because it almost sounds like you can't talk to college or talk to players. Actually you can talk. College coaches can get on the phone with you during the quiet period. They can text with you, they can email you, all of those things. As far as you are of age, they can do that in your high school year. The quiet period just means that they can't come have in person contact with you all their campus. So they can't come watch you at your high school or at a tournament or at a showcase when we are in the quiet period, which is that tan. But they can watch you and have in person and talk to you on their campus. And you might not even be on their campus, but again, they can call you, talk to you, they can even offer you all those factors in the quiet period. And then when we get into the green, which is the contact period, the quiet period contact period is the biggest, the big amount of this. And from a recruiting, in the periods from just a volume standpoint, in a number of days, contact periods mean this is when college coaches, Division 1 college coaches can basically leave their campus to come watch you in person. Whether that's at your high school games, whether it's at showcases or camps off of their campus or at tournaments and things like that. This is really when recruiting starts picking up. And it only continues to, to pick up throughout the whole year. The slowest kind of months are kind of January and February as far as from recruiting, and then March all the way through December. Recruiting is heavy going in from this with evaluating players to offering bringing players on campus, getting on phone calls, all those things. So the contact period just means that they can now go off and watch you play. They can watch you as a freshman, they can watch you as a sophomore. They can watch you a junior and senior during the contact period. And then we have the dead period, really, which just means that they can't have any in person with you in person contact with you on or off the field. Those are usually around holidays and things like that. And then we have the recruiting shutdown, which just means that they can't have any in person or have any communication with you. And that is the only period where they cannot have communication with you all. Whether it's the quiet period, the contact period, or even the, the, the dead period that they can actually call you, they can text you, all those. But during the shutdown period, they cannot have any communication or any in person communication with you. But if you have any questions about this, I know it's, it's a lot. This whole recruiting process process is a lot. If you have any questions, please comment down below or go to my website, set up a call with me if you're interested in more personal help, and we can kind of see if this is a. A good fit moving forward. And if not, that's completely fine. Good luck to you, and I will see you in the next video. Take care.
