Short video by Alex Swenson advising high-school athletes (baseball example) to be proactive in college recruiting. Uses the story of a junior who was second-team All-State in Ohio but was overlooked because he relied on 'they will find me'—the takeaway: actively market yourself to coaches.

Hey, good lesson here. I just got done talking to a dad. His son as a Jr. Was second team all state in the state of Ohio, a very competitive state from a baseball perspective, and got completely missed on the recruiting side of things. All right, good player. I looked him up. He's a very good player. Could have easily played at the next level, but just got missed because nobody knew about him. Nobody knew who he was because they went by the standards of like, hey, if I'm good enough, they will find me. No, you get missed most of the time unless you are the Gatorade player of the year. All right, yeah, it's easy to find those guys, but even second team all state players can get missed. Again, he could have easily played at the next level. The lesson is, hey, be proactive. Do not just hope to be found. Do not just wing this recruiting process. Get your name out there. College coaches can't recruit players that they don't know about, even if you're all state. Good luck.
