Alex Swenson, a former Division I coach and recruiter, breaks down a 6-level system to measure how serious a college coach actually is about you. It goes from level 0 (they don't know you exist) to level 5 (they've offered you a spot with money). Swenson warns that hoping coaches will notice you doesn't work.

How serious is a college coach about you? I created this ranking system to help you determine where you're at. I'm a former Division 1 college coach, Scout and recruiter. And let's start off with zero. And the thing is, everybody starts at zero at some point, alright? And that is coaches have never heard about you. And most people get stuck here because they're in this motto of like, hey, I'm just hoping to be found, or if I'm good enough, they will find me. No, no, no, no. You get missed that way. Hope is not a good strategy. And then we go to number one, this is generic camp invites. They send it of athletes. Not very personal, but we're getting hotter here. Number two, coaches ask your coach about you. You're starting to get on their radar here. Number three, direct contact. Coaches are emailing you personal emails, texts, calls, there's conversation and dialogue going on. And number four, you get invited for a personal visit. Could be an unofficial visit, this could be an official visit, but you're on campus meeting with the college coaches. And of course, number five is you get the offer includes a financial package and you are a priority. Good luck.
