Hey, Team Alex here in today's episode, we're going to be talking about how to be a top recruit for a school and how to navigate that from a marketing perspective. There's a lot of questions out there and a lot of feelings out there of like, I don't know if I want to market myself because I don't want it to come off the wrong way. Does it come off the wrong way from a college coach's perspective? I'm going to nip that in the butt right now because I struggled through this. I kind of thought that I didn't want to come off like kind of cocky or whatever that may be. But college coaches want you to market yourself. You're going to know the line whether it's cocky or not. But think about it from a college coach's perspective. If they don't see you or if they don't know about you, they can't recruit you. And their whole job is to go out and find athletes and you want to make that as easy as possible for the them. So, yes, definitely market yourself through good highlight videos through social media and I've done videos about that. How to best do that from that perspective. But showcasing your best qualities as a player so college coaches can see you is very, very important. So be proactive in this college recruiting process. Don't just sit back and hope to be found and be passive. No, we're going to be proactive now. More details on best positioning yourself to be a top recruit for, for a school. And the first thing is targeting schools that match your athletic ability. Okay, that is really, really important. How do we know that? Right? How do we know to go after schools that are going to be a good fit from an athletic ability? One is understanding and watching them play, those type of athletes play, who have they committed as well in classes ahead of you. And this is where you got to be honest with yourself of your ability but also understanding their athletic stand. Every school has athletic standards similar to schools that have academic standards. Every school has academic standards. Think of it as from a Harvard or Ivy League perspective. We need to fit academic standards to get into those schools. We don't fit those, it's going to be almost nearly impossible to get into those schools. Well, same thing from an athletic standards perspective. I run through these. I've done videos about this. I have it on my website on the premier athletes platform of every school's athletic standards. If you guys are interested in that from a baseball perspective, I'll put up my website right here. Premierathletes co check that out. And if you're new to my channel, my name is Alex Swenson. I'm a former Division 1 college coach, Scout and recruiter. And now what I do is help talented high school athletes and their parents navigate this college recruiting process and just put them in the best possible position to play at the next level. So if you get anything from this video, please smash that like button that thumbs up right down here. If you're on YouTube, I also have a podcast. I put out a weekly video and podcast as well. Would love to have you guys submit a review. It helps me out. I am just here to help guys get to the next level as much as I possibly can. I had such a great college experience. I'm just trying to get that back to as many guys as I possibly can. So let's talk about also showcasing your talents effectively to be a top recruit, okay? We have to show our top talents and we want to show that through a good highlight video that also has a caption or kind of a title on YouTube that is catchy. We want to show our best athletic abilities, best metrics, best stats, grades and physicality. So if I am like a pitcher, right? A right handed pitcher, that's six, two or three, like 185, I want to show that because being a pitcher and tall and physical helps me. And if I throw 87 miles an hour as a junior, I want to show that and say if I'm a catcher, right, I'm not going to show off my speed as much because me, I was a former college catcher and I was not fast. So I'm not going to showcase my speed. Think of this as a digital resume. We want to show our best qualities, all right, whatever that is for your position, for show your best qualities there. Also performing well in person, okay? In game events and showcase events, we need to perform. That is how we're going to be a top recruit. So there's four things that these college coaches look at is your physicality, the projectability, your metrics, and your game performance. If you match and check all those, you will be a top recruit for a school. And then also grades, all right, Grades are going to be super important. Do not put yourself in a position where they want to recruit you, but they can't because you don't have good grades. I have run into that situation when I was a college coach at Georgetown, very high academic school and we had to recruit high academic players. And I would love a player from an athletic standpoint and then I'd get his transcript and we just couldn't work with it because he couldn't get into school and admissions would end up getting him in. So that is a really unfortunate situation. Do not put yourself in that situation there and then as far as communication we need to be communicating with these college coaches. Be prompt with your communication all right making sure that you are engaging with them and then obviously be a good teammate. Be coachable with your coaches. Not every coach out there is perfect. You're not going to like every coach but it's important that you put the team first and that you are coachable moving forward because all these college coaches that are recruiting you will check on these things and that's how you become top recruit for a school. So comment down below. Reach out to me with any questions that you have and again please smash that like button and subscribe to my channel. I'll see you in the next video. Take care.
