How To Become Self-Disciplined

Alex Swenson explains how to build self-discipline through a hero mindset, a daily reflective prompt, and environmental design. He recommends writing out your schedule each day, using accountability partners, and accepting that you'll fail sometimes but can always return to the habit.

Hey, guys, Alex here we're going to be talking about discipline. And discipline is hard. It's not sexy, it is not flashy, but it is so, so valuable for yourself and the people around you, especially today when there are so many temptations and distractions that come at you on a daily basis. You need to hold the line on discipline, right? You need to create and maintain discipline every single day. You need to fight those temptations. You need to fight those distractions. So, so how do you do that? Right? How do you hold the line? How do you become more disciplined? Well, we're going to get into that right here. If you like this video, if you get anything from it, please select like and subscribe. I put out a weekly video. All right, let's dive into it. Hey, write this stuff down. If there's any takeaways or anything that you can run with or any aha moment, write it down, okay? Do not trust your memory. If you're anything like me or if you're human. Do not trust your memory. We need to be reminded all the time, okay? And I'm going to be throwing a bunch of stuff at you in the short little video. Take time to think about it. There's some things in this that I had to take time to think about, and then I had that aha moment. So don't give up on some of these things. Think deeply on these and see if you can have any takeaways or anything that can really put you in the right direction of discipline. The first one. Be the hero in your story. Every life is a story, and in every story there is a hero and there is a victim. Which one are you playing? You got to be honest with yourself here, okay? Are you playing the hero or are you playing the victim? And the thing is, and I know I've done this, I've played the victim before. And there's. There's type of situations in my life or scenarios in the past, definitely that I played the victim, and then there's others that have played the hero. You need to find out where you're playing the victim, okay? And you got to be honest with yourself. And this is what victims do. They complain. They complain and they complain and they make excuse after excuse after excuse. And that is annoying, that is tired, some. That is unproductive. And this is also another thing that it does, and that's. It just compounds it. It brings those other type of people into your life, okay? So, hey, play the hero. Understand where you are the victim in your story, and start playing the Hero. So one thing that I have found over and over again that I've seen, because there's all different types of heroes, all types of successful people, what is a common thing that they have. And I found definitely one thing, they take action, they move, they are disciplined to what they are doing. Okay? When you start having this mindset of the hero being the hero in your story, being the hero in your movie, you take action, you move ahead, you go after big goals, and you stay disciplined to the habits that you need to do to accomplish those goals. So be the hero. Start living your life in a way that you do not want to have any regrets. The way I think about it, I do not want anything to haunt me. I think long term, as far as when I'm 85, 90, I don't want to look back on my life and be haunted by any particular thing, how I live my life, what I did. That mindset helps me stay disciplined to the things that I want to do, the goals that I have, short and long. Okay? So try to change your mindset in that way. Do not have any. Any regrets on your day or anything that can haunt you. Okay? Stay disciplined to what you're doing. The next One is from Dr. Franklin, a psychologist. It's a question, and this one took me a little time to really digest and then have that aha moment, and I sure did. Okay, so this is the question. Live today like you are living this day for the second time. What would you do differently? Let me ask that again. Live today like you are living this day for the second time. What would you do differently? So this question makes you think ahead and also reflect at the same time, which is profound, because what that does, it helps you edit your day and design your life. It helps you edit the actions that you're about to do and design your life by really reflecting on the past, looking at this day, because a lot of the days that we have are common to the past days that we have. So it has that reflection. What would you do differently? Right? And then it allows you to think ahead on the day that's about to come up and edit the actions that you're about to do. Pretty profound for me, also, I wrote this. Those who do not reflect, neither edit nor design, they just respond. Don't be just a responder, right? All the outside influence, don't just respond. Rather than, hey, editing your life, reflecting back on what you're doing, okay. And what you're about to do and. And then respond that way. Don't just be responsive A lot of people call this a yes, man. They just say yes to respond, right? Hey, think about what you're about to do and what you would do differently if you had already done it. Okay? So take control of your life. Basically, take control of your life. That will keep you disciplined to what you want to do next. Let's get into the next one last few points here, and these are very important, especially this one environment. Create an environment that's going to help you succeed and give you the best chance to win. So this could be the people that you surround yourself with. Surround yourself with people that inspire you, that are better than you, that create an environment that's going to help you succeed. Not people that are going to bring you down, that are victims. Surround yourself with other heroes. This could also be like with the house. Say you're losing weight. Do not have things in your house that are going to help you gain weight. Bad foods, bad drinks, sodas, etc. Fill your house up with healthy foods that you also enjoy. But it's going to help you succeed, and you're creating that environment to succeed in what you want to accomplish. Okay? And this could be situations. Do not put yourself in situations that are going to give you chances to fail. Right? That you want to put yourself in situations that are going to help you succeed at whatever you're trying to accomplish. Create a schedule and write it down, okay? And look at it every single day and every night. Again, we. You need to be reminded. Create a schedule. Write this stuff down. Do not go off of memory. Do not trust your memory at all. And take responsibility and share that responsibility with somebody else. It could be a close friend, but somebody that you respect, okay? Somebody that you really respect. That way, when you tell them what you're about to do or a goal that you have or again, that's coming up, you're creating some type of accountability partner that they can help you create accountability with. That is huge, okay? So hold the line. Stay disciplined. Create and maintain discipline on a daily basis. And understand it's going to be hard and there's going to be times that you fail. But get back on the train. I hope this helps and let me know how it goes.
