A short tutorial by Alex Swenson explaining simple, practical adjustments to increase throwing velocity. Key recommendations: use a proper four-seam grip with fingers closer together (but not touching) to stay near the ball's center mass, focus on spinning the baseball to increase velocity, and support training with long toss and arm care.

Everybody wants to throw the ball a little bit harder, a little bit more velo. Well, this is a simple way to do that. When you grab a baseball, make sure your fingers aren't too spread out on that four seam, okay? And it's important that you are on that four seam, so your fingers are on the seams and you get more friction when you get it. You want to think about spinning the baseball as much as you possibly can. That's going to help with the velocity. But from a finger standpoint, you want your fingers closer than they are apart, okay? And the reason why, you're going to be closer to that center mass of the ball, which you're going to have more behind it as you throw that ball. Now, you don't want them necessarily touching here because you're not going to have really any accuracy. But slightly apart there I like to have. And the thing is, again, you don't want it here. So slightly apart, you're going to have a little bit more velocity. Don't forget about long toss. Don't forget about arm care.
