He warns against relying on hope or big showcases, and points to a fringe player who committed to a D1 program in 2025 through targeted outreach.

Is D1 baseball still realistic for high school players today? Or has the transfer portal nil and roster chaos made it nearly impossible? If you're a parent trying to help your son play college baseball, you're probably feeling overwhelmed right now. It's harder than ever to break into D1, but here's the truth. There's still a path if you know where to look and how to build a plan around where your son is actually fits. Hey, I am Alex Swenson. I'm a former Division 1 coach, Scout and recruiter and now the founder of Premier Athletes. In the last few months alone, we've had more high school players commit to college baseball than ever before. Yes, even at the D1 level. And it's not luck. It's because we know how to navigate this chaos. Let's be honest. The college baseball landscape has changed between the transfer portal, Covid eligibility years, JUCO shifts, nil money going into the game. It's gotten a lot tougher for high school players to get notice, especially at the D1 level. There are fewer open roster spots now. Coaches are leaning more on the portal. And if you don't have a plan, it's easy to get lost or waste years chasing school schools that were never the right fit or never looking for your position. But here's the good news. There are schools looking for high school players right now. Even at the Division 1 level. The guys who are landing these opportunities, they're not guessing. They're not chasing the big names on the jersey. They're not going to random camps or random showcases hoping just to be discovered. Hope is not a strategy. They have a plan. They know where they fit academically and athletically. And they're targeting the schools who need their position. This is very important of going through this recently. Let me just give you a quick example. We had a player named Portal. Great kid, but kind of a fringe guy. Right between, honestly, D3, D2 and D1 mid major. Not a can't miss prospect, but he had tools. We helped him build the right school list, reach out to the schools that needed his position and figured that out and showcased his game in the right ways. Now he's committed to a D1 school here in 2025, and he earned that this year. Look, the dream of D1 isn't dead. But the old way of doing things, of just hoping to be found and going to these big tournaments and hoping just for the best, that way is over. If you're a parent who's serious about helping your son play at the next level. Don't chase blindly. Get clear on the process and build a real plan. Whether that's me or just having a college coach help you or a high school coach help you, that's exactly what we do at Premier Athletes. If you want help figuring out where your son fits and what the next steps are you, you can schedule a free call with me today. I'll leave a link down below in the description. Let's talk about your son's goals and make sure he's not just seen, but seen by the right schools. Good luck.
