A former Division I coach explains how to tell if a camp invite is real recruiting interest or just mass marketing. Send the coach a three-sentence email asking if they're recruiting your position, include a highlight video, and ask for honest feedback. A personal reply means genuine interest; silence means it was a blast email to thousands of athletes.

All right, your athlete just got an exclusive camp invitation from a school, but you can't tell if it's real recruiting interest or just marketing. Does that sound familiar? You're not crazy and you're definitely not alone. And here's the truth from a former D1 coach, scout, and recruiter with 11 years of experience. Most of those invites go out to hundreds, if not thousands, of athletes. And let me be clear about what most parents are actually upset about, and rightfully so. It's not paying for a camp. A marketing email dressed up to feel like recruiting interest. That's frustrating. But here's the good news: there's a simple way to find out if the interest is real. Before you spend a dime, do this: reply to that email directly to the coach and include 3 things. 1, ask if they're recruiting your athlete's position in their class. So, Coach, thanks for the invite. Are you looking for a 2028— and then your position? 2, attach your highlight video. And 3, ask for Honest feedback. Do you see a potential fit in your program? That's it. 3 sentences. Now watch what happens. If the coach responds personally to your athlete, that's a really good sign. That camp might be worth every penny. But if it's silence, there's your answer. It was probably just a blast email and there was not really any real interest. That one reply can save your family hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars in a wasted weekend. That's one tactic from the Recruit Ready Challenge. Inside my Recruit Ready Challenge, your family gets the whole system, what to say to coaches when and how to know what's real. If interested, there's a waitlist of 4,000 parents right now. Just comment recruit and I'll let you know the moment it opens. See you soon.
