I just got off the phone with a college coach in Florida and we were talking about recruiting and athletes and what he said really hit me, especially as a former D1 coach, scout, and recruiter. And sometimes as athletes we can get caught up in the mechanics and definitely the metrics and strategies and the little things, which do matter, but this is what he says: we are just looking for kids that compete their butts off and that are coachable. That's it. He said, I'll take an athlete with those intangibles over a more talented athlete that doesn't compete well and that's not coachable. Talent will get you noticed for sure, but competing and being coachable will get you recruited. Make sure you're building those traits on top of your skill development, your weight training, your academics, and your mental strength, because that's what separates the recruited from the overlooked. Good luck.
