Alex Swenson, a former D1 coach and recruiter, breaks down eight colleges new to NCAA Division I baseball. He covers each school's coaching staff, enrollment, costs, acceptance rates, and recruiting class commitments. These programs recruit later and have more open roster spots than established D1 schools.

Hey, how you doing, Alex here? Thanks for joining me. And today's a fun video because we get to look at some schools that have recently joined Division 1 baseball and that are about to join Division 1 baseball here in the spring of 2023. And why is this exciting? Because there's a lot of opportunities here at each of these schools and there's a lot of good schools around the country, as you will see. So there's four that have recently joined over the last couple of years, one or two years, and then there's four that are joining next year, 2023, which is coming up here soon in the spring. So these are baseball specific schools. We're going to be using my recruiting software here that going to be releasing here in the next month or two to the public. So you guys will be able to use this if you guys want to as well. So let's dive in to this. And hey, if you get anything from this video, please smash that like button that thumbs up, remember, right down over here somewhere there. It helps my channel out a lot. I put out a weekly video on just how to get better on and off the field and how to navigate this college recruiting process. Plus talk about schools like we're going to be talking about here. And my name is Alex Swinson. If you're new to my channel, I'm a former Division 1 college baseball coach, scout and recruiter. So let's dive in to this. So I'm going to select schools where we'll be able to see every college school here as well. There's Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, even NAI and JUCO schools. You can see top ranked schools. But we're gonna go and just take a look at these schools, these eight schools that we're gonna be diving into. We're gonna of course take a look at Division 1. Here's a little bird's eye view of all the schools in the country at the Division 1 level. But I'm gonna select Search because the first school that we are gonna be taking a look at is Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. They joined Division 1, they went from D2 to D1 in 2021. And a good program that's going to continue to get better in the state of Kentucky. I mean there's just a lot of good baseball there. And from this standpoint, Coach Dominguez is the head coach here with his assistants and the recruiting coordinator. Ross is a great guy. He's doing a good job there. Some school information, the 2400 undergrads they have a 13 to 1 student to faculty ratio financially they're a private institution so they're a little bit more expensive. Acceptance rates, 82% commits right now this is what they have in the 2023 class. Very few in 2024. So there's a lot of opportunities and none in 2025. So definitely check out Bellarmine University new to Division 1 and let's go on back to that search and take a look at the next one which is St. Thomas in Minnesota. Here this is. They're new, they just joined division one last year. They had their first division one as far as a season and they are in the Summit League. And as far as their coach, Coach Olene, he's doing a good job as well over there trying to build that program in the Midwest they have a total undergrad population of 6,276. They're 14 to 1 student to faculty ratio. This is their cost of 20 tuition 47,000 average cost. Just kind of what the average cost. What that really means is like housing, food. We try to bring everything in so people understand what they're going to be really paying from a year to year out basis 87% as far as acceptance rates, where they're at, the commitment. And this is just my profile by the way as far as where you're seeing my position and just put these in. So they're pretty much done in the 2023 class and they're bringing in guys in the 2024 class so definitely check them out. And all of these right here that you're seeing, these are school links, baseball links, camp website, their Twitter. You can contact college coaches here as well. You just select this or select contact college coaches. And I'm going to go back. So that is St. Thomas. Now the next one we are going to be taking a look is is Tarleton State University in Texas. Good program here. Coach Mead again is doing a great job here as well. His assistants Dallas and West and Connor they're doing a good job bringing in good talent there and they went and they're in their second year of division one. They joined from division two division they went from D2 to D1 in 2021. Their undergrad population is just under 12,000 and their in state tuition is 8,276. They're out of to 17 so definitely a little bit more affordable. Acceptance rates is actually pretty good as far as challenging wise and with the cost is 57% from a commitment standpoint 23s are wrapping up 24s. We're just getting started there. So definitely take a look at them as we go and as you go through this process, if that area and that school is of interest to you, the next one that have recently been joined as far as Division 1 is UC San Diego and beautiful San Diego, California. Coach Newman has done a great job. They've done indeed at the D2 level. Man, they were a powerhouse there and now they've come over to Division 1. Are very, very competitive at UC San Diego. Bigger school here. Student to faculty ratios 19 to 1. Their undergrad population is 31,000, right? Under 32,000 in state is about 15,000. Out of state is 44. This is kind of the average cost per year that you'll see. Acceptance rate again, it's pretty challenging to get into this school as well. 36%. As far as commitments here, they're wrapping up, if not already wrapped up for the 23s and wide open for the 2024. So take a look at them and then let's get into the schools that are going to be joining Division 1 in the spring of 2023 coming up. And here we're going to take a look at Linden Wood university in Missouri, St. Charles, Missouri. And a head coach is Coach Bletcher over there. Associate head coach is P.J. and coach Corr as an assistant as well. Their undergrad is 47,880 and student to faculty is 14 to 1. They're in state is 18,000 and driving on down to the commitments they are still looks like still recruiting potentially for the 2023s and wide open for the 2024s there. So take a good look at Lindenwood and their first Division one year and schedule will be this spring. The next one I'm super excited about here is Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina. A great city in Charlotte, a good program. Coach Steadley over there has did a great job at Division 2 level and now they are coming into the Division 1 level. They are in the ASUN conference and excited to see what they do. A smaller private school in Charlotte, North Carolina. Smaller schools, 160010 to 1. Student to faculty ratio as far as in state tuition, 37,000, acceptance rate 68%. Here are the 23. They're pretty much done with 2023s now, but wide open for 2024. So check out Queen's as they start their Division 1 schedule here in the spring. The next one is Southern Indiana and they are going to be starting their Division 1 here. In the spring as well, they're going to be in the Ohio Valley Conference. Coach Tracy over there again did a great job. Division 2 level. Now they're bringing over to Division 1. There are kind of a mid size school, about 6,600 undergrads in state, very affordable at 9,000 out of state, 20,000 acceptance rates 93% and 23s. They have three committed in 23 classes. Very well. Potentially could be heavily still recruiting 2023s now and again wide open for the 2024s. As you see, there is still a lot of opportunities in 24s for these newer schools. Then last but not least, that's going to be joining the Division one ranks here in the fall, or excuse me, spring is Stonehill College. Coach Boheen over there again, all these coaches have done a great job at the Division 2 level and now they're bringing their ranks over to Division 1, a smaller school, 11 to 1 student to faculty, 2,421 undergrads. They're going to be joining the Northeast Country Conference. Skipped over that private school, about $46,000 in tuition each year and 60, around 69% acceptance rate. From where they're at. 23 looks pretty wrapped up here. But 24s are wide wide open. So guys, just definitely check out these schools going in as. As these schools are going to the Division 1 ranks. They're looking for obviously really, really good players. But there's a lot of opportunities as a Division 2 or Division 3 schools. They recruit a lot later when they were that okay. And that kind of can at times still be the case for them right now. So they're still recruiting. A lot of. Some of them are 23, some of them are done, but some of them are still recruiting 23s and then they're wide open for 2020 and definitely 2025. So check that out. Watch them this spring, keep an eye on them and definitely consider them as you go through this college recruiting process. If you have any questions, please let me know and we will go from there. Hope you have a good day.
