Recruiting is MUCH more than just talent

Alex Swenson, a former Division 1 coach, breaks down college baseball recruiting. Talent matters, but so do exposure, connections, roster fit, and timing. He stresses what you can control: skill development and aggressive outreach, like sending recruiting videos and contacting dozens of coaches.

The recruiting process is so much more than just skill or talent. It's also about exposure. It's about connections. It's about finding schools that are in need of your position and that have openings in your class. That is massive as well. And it's also about being in the right place at the right time. Does luck have a little bit of involvement in this? Absolutely. That can definitely be the case. It's also about playing in front of the right coaches that are decision makers that can actually recruit you and offer you going through this recruiting process. And we want to make sure we focus on the things that we can control as we go through this. And if you're new to my channel, my name is Alex Swenson. I'm a former Division 1 college coach, scout, and recruiter with 11 years of experience. And now what I do is help high school baseball players and their parents navigate this college recruiting process and put them in the best possible position to play at the next level. So if you're looking for more personal help going through this recruiting process, you can visit my website right down here where I explain my program and how you can work with me. You can set up a call with me to learn more. So let's talk about what we can control. So skills and talent. Absolutely. We want to focus on skill development as we go through this recruiting process is one of the foundations of the recruiting process, which is skill development, weight training, academics, and of course, mental strength as we go through this. Got to be mentally strong. But the other aspect that is massive, where I help guys is getting exposure to these college coaches. College coaches can't recruit a player that they don't know about. Right. So we got to make sure we get on their radars, get noticed and get seen by them. So reaching out and getting connected, you go out and actually recruit them so they learn more about you in dialogue. It's so important of getting that going, having a good recruiting video to be able to send that to them. It's like their first impression of you. So we want to have that recruiting video dialed in and reaching out, reaching out, reaching out, being proactive. We have guys in our program that are reaching out to 50 to 100 schools and getting a lot of traction. And it's not all just D1, Power 4, Power 5 schools. It's a variety of them that they feel can be realistic as they go through this recruiting process. So it can definitely be D1s, but it's also D2s and D3s, and if NAIA and JUCO interests you, it can be that too. So make sure you are proactive and blow the top off of the exposure process because you can get a lot of traction there. Good luck.
