Alex Swenson (speaker) outlines five "back doors" high school athletes use to secure college athletics commitments: (1) connections (coaches/contacts who get you seen), (2) academic leverage (grades/academics to separate prospects), (3) school positional need (targeting schools that need your position/class), (4) showcases/camps/events (attend the right events where decision-makers/coaches will be), and (5) social proof (video and social media evidence of ability). The video emphasizes targeting the right schools/events and working with well-connected people while maintaining academics.

Let's talk about the back door to college commitments for high school athletes. Now, there's five back doors that are really used as levers to get to the next level. Have you ever seen an athlete that's committed to a school and you're like, how did that athlete get into that school? What was the process? Am I missing anything here? Alright, let's go over to the first backdoor. The biggest backdoor of them all is connections. Alright? College coaches use connections like myself and other coaches out there to know about athletes so they can go watch them play to see if this is a good fit. They're not just randomly showing up at events or tournaments hoping to find an athlete. No, they're very precise. So make sure that you're working with somebody that has good connections that can help you find a good foot for you, not only athletically, but academically as well. And that brings me to backdoor number two, academic leverage. This can be a huge separator, so make sure that your grades are dialed in because you can separate yourself from the pack, from other prospects. Number three, is the school in need of your position in your class. That is massive. Not every school's in need of every position each year. So make sure you're targeting the right schools. There's a lot of wasted time and money and energy going after the wrong schools. Number four is showcases in camps and events. Make sure you're going to the right events. There's a lot of money grabs out there. Make sure when you're going, you know which schools are going to be there, you know what coaches are going to be there and are they the decision makers? Massive. And then number five, social proof. Got to prove of whether it's video or on social media that you can play.
