The GOLD Standard of College Baseball

Alex Swenson's YouTube video "The GOLD Standard of College Baseball" lists what he considers the top college baseball programs across levels (JUCO divisions, NAIA, NCAA Division 3–1) over roughly the last 20 years, and urges players to pursue opportunities at all levels because being a student-athlete builds life skills, mentorship, and discipline.

Hey, team Alex here.
Thanks for joining me.
And in today's video, we're going to be talking about the gold standard for college baseball at each level. What do I mean by gold standard? The best of the best over the last 20 years, who are the best of the best again at each level. So that's NAIA, JUCO, D3, D2 in Division 1, of course. But before we even get into that.
We'Re going to be talking about why.
The being a student athlete at the next level is a life changing opportunity. So hey, if you get anything from this video, please smash that like button.
And subscribe to my channel.
I put out a weekly video on how to better ourselves on and off the field and how to get better through this recruiting process in play at the next level. All right, let's get into it. Hey, make sure we're going after opportunities and not status. And what do I mean by that? And I'm not saying don't go for high levels, don't pursue the highest level, which is division one, but make sure that you're not only going for Division 1, especially Power 5 schools. Guys, the Power 5 schools are just unbelievably competitive. And some of these divisions, most of these guys are getting drafted out of high school and then going to college, especially with the change of the draft over the last year or two. Okay, so, and again, I get it. I understand that. But if you're only going to Division Ones and you have the mindset for D1 or bust, you're leaving other possible opportunities at the Division 2 level, Division 3 level, JUCO or NAIA gone, you're not, you're not pursuing those where you possibly could have opportunities there that can be life changing. So whether it's Division 1, and again, I'm not saying don't go after Division 1, but I am saying make sure that you're looking at Division 2 and Division 3 and NAI schools and possibly JUCO schools as well. That's a good fit for you. Okay, you've seen me do some other videos on JUCO where it might make sense to go junior college route. But my point of saying is this, again, chase the opportunities. Because at all these levels, these opportunities can be life changing. What do I mean by that? The experiences that you're going to gain at the college level as a student athlete on the field and off can be life changing. The skill sets that you're going to learn on and off the field at the college level can, can be life changing. The relationships can no doubt be life changing. The mentors that you get from the coaches, from the team captains, maybe when you're a freshman and a captain takes you underneath their wing like a guy, like did for me was life changing, okay? And the discipline and the responsibilities that you learn as a student athlete because there's a lot of responsibility that you have and you have to, to be disciplined or start garnering discipline at the college level, all this stuff translates to the next chapter of your life, which is the real world, if you will, when you get into a job. Because, hey, hate to break it to you, you're not going to play baseball forever. And going to College is a 40 year plan, not a four year plan. You've heard me say this before. And it's not just the game of baseball that can change your life. And what do I mean by that is how you deal with failure and all of those things. Because baseball, as you know, is such a game of failure. And if you're not good with failure, you're not going to last in baseball. And frankly, you're not going to go many places in life if you deal with failure, because life is a game of failure as well. And how do you bounce back from that? So my point of saying this is make sure that you're pursuing all the levels and that you're reaching out to all of the levels and all of the coaches because there can be opportunities there. So if you're reaching out to all Division 1 schools or all Power 5 schools and you're not hearing anything back, it's probably a sign. Okay? It's probably a sign. And don't neglect the other division. So I wanted to make sure I started off with this. All right, let's get into the gold standard of college baseball.
All right, team, we're going to start with juco, and juco has three divisions. We're going to start with juco, D3, D2 and D1. And then we're going to go to NAIA Division 3, Division 2 and Division 1. So starting off with juco Division 3, the gold standard of juco Division 3 is Tyler Jr. College in Tyler, Texas. They're actually the largest junior college in the country with 9,525 students have had 38 drafted players and they've had six national championships since 2000. So check out Tyler Junior College. They have a strong, strong reputation as far as being the gold standard in the last two decades. Now for JUCO division two, the gold standard is Louisiana State University at Eunice. They have seven national championships since 2000 and they're located in Eunice, Louisiana. Student population is 2,569 and they have over 55 drafted players. Now this baseball stadium is a rendering but they're building this baseball stadium which is going to be the top junior college baseball stadium in the country. So really excited. I mean they deserve it with as many national championships as they've won since 2000. For the juco division one gold standard. It's chipola college. They've won three national championships since 2000. Now this one was hard for me to decide on as far as the gold standard, but I would put Chipola there. They are located in Florida. They have a student population of 1362 and they've had over 200 plus players drafted. And honestly probably around 500 or more players go on and play at the next level. Division three, Division two and definitely Division one. Okay, let's get to naia. Lewis Clark State College. This they are no doubt the gold standard for NAIA. They I think have 19 total national championships, but nine since 2000. And look at, check this out. They are located in Lewiston, Idaho. All right. Yes, Idaho. And they are a powerhouse in NAIA population 2677 and have had over 200 players drafted into the MLB which is super, super cool. Let's get into Division 3. The gold standard is Marietta College. They have six national championships. Their location is in Ohio. Marietta, Ohio and student population is 1067. They've had over 50 players drafted, so definitely check them out. A great, great program with a long standing history and strong reputation at Division 3 level and Division 2 Tampa University, eight national championships. The location in Tampa, Florida, student population is 8,685. They've been dominant over the last, you know, 20 years if you so. And they've had a hundred plus players drafted out of there and for Division 1 Vanderbilt. I chose Vanderbilt as the gold standard especially over the last decade or so. They have two recent national championships and they have two recent national runner ups including last year against Mississippi State. And their location is Nashville, Tennessee. Student population is 6,871 and well over a hundred players drafted out of Vanderbilt. Coach Corbin over there has just done an excellent job. He is, he's an excellent teacher of the game. But not only a game, but he's a great mentor for the guys teaching them just about life and how to deal with life and failure and values and principles. So check them out. I'm sure you've heard about them, I'm sure you heard about Vanderbilt, but amazing, complex, amazing facility and amazing program, so.
Hope you got something from this.
Please check out these gold standards in college baseball. And I would love to hear if.
