Alex Swenson, a former Division 1 coach, breaks down three types of college visits: player-led tours you arrange yourself, unofficial half-day visits where coaches host you and many offers happen, and official overnight visits the school pays for. Watch practice, tell coaches you're coming, and ask what they look for at your position.

My high school athletes. Here are some tips for college visits, especially as things heat up in the recruiting process. And if you're new to my channel, my name is Alex Swinson. I'm a former Division 1 college coach, scout and recruiter with 11 years of experience. Now there's three types of college visits. One is player led. Number two is an unofficial visit and number three is an official visit. Let's go over number one, player led. This is where you're proactive. You and your parents maybe go visit a campus, maybe you pop your head into the coach's office, introduce yourself. Great way to get FaceTime. Even better, maybe go watch practice as well. And one thing I highly recommend is take a tour with admissions to get a feel of a campus. You're now you're not going to catch the coach every time, but at least you get a feel and you can let coaches know prior that you are coming. Number two is an unofficial visit. This is when things really heat up and they are interested in you. A lot of offers happen on an unofficial visit. Now the expenses are on you. Don't take that as the knock. It's usually one with timing and the recruiting process. But usually this is a half day event and they show you around campus, they show you around the facility, they kind of roll out the red carpet for you. And then there's a official visit. This is number three. This might be overnight, you might even be committed at this point or they're definitely likely gonna offer you at this point and you stay with the player and they take care of all the expenses from that side. And then one question that you can ask and think about is what do you look for in a high school athlete at my position and what is a day in the life like as a student athlete here? Good luck.
