Feeling Overwhelmed? It's Not Your Mindset, It's This
3 Feb 2026 · 29 min
Carla Archer explains why mindset work alone doesn't fix overwhelm: your nervous system's frequency matters more. She uses David R. Hawkins' emotional scale (guilt at 20-30, forgiveness at 350) and recommends small shifts like gratitude, grounding, and high-frequency music to raise your vibrational state before tackling mindset work.

You've done the mindset work, you've cleaned up your diet, and you're staying active, but you still feel foggy, reactive, and overwhelmed. If your positive thinking has stopped working, it's not your fault—it's your nervous system. Today, we're going beyond mindset to explore how frequency and nutrition act as the hidden architecture for your mental well-being. Joining me is Carla Archer, an expert in frequency integrative wellness. If you're ready to start. Stop trying harder and start feeling regulated. This conversation is for you. Carla, welcome to the show.
Well, thank you so much, Rita, for inviting me to join you today. It's a pleasure.
I have interviewed a couple of other people around frequency, and it seems to be an area within well-being that is gaining a lot of traction and a lot of acceptance, because most— it seems like that seems to be the part of our whole body system, energetic field, whatever, that isn't regularly looked at. Carla, you know, we've been taught that our mindset is really like the end-all be-all. What actually— what does it actually mean when you need to go— when you say we need to go beyond our mindset to find true mental well-being?
Mindset, yes, very powerful. In a lot of ways, it's like putting the cart ahead of the horse, in that if our bodies and our minds aren't supported, then it's hard to take action with mindset. Mindset work does work, but it's easy to say to someone, oh, it's just your mindset. But if you're not— it's kind of like going to the gym and you haven't eaten for a really long time, and they say, well, just go lift all those weights and build some muscle. Well, your body can't build muscle if it's not properly supported. And I feel that the same thing goes for your mind and your mindset. Mindset is a tool, is an exercise that you can use. But if you're physically and emotionally not in a position to support your mindset, then it's really hard to get to that place where mindset can be put into action.
Yes. Is that why so many people feel like, hey, wait a minute, I'm doing all the right things. You know, I've got a clean diet, I exercise, you know, do other types of therapy. And yet I still— they, they still feel stuck, foggy, and sometimes, you know, completely overwhelmed.
Yes, absolutely. And when we're talking about frequency, we're talking about the energy or the, the vibration of our, our energy inside of our body. Our organs actually all have a particular hertz, which is the measurement of frequency, that they vibrate at, at an optimal level so that they're functioning. And this is a feature of our physical being that, like you mentioned, isn't oftentimes talked about or is thought of as woo-woo, but our neural nervous system and our energetic system, being our frequency, our bioenergetics, are working simultaneously together whether you're aware of it or whether you believe in it or not. So when we also look at your nutrition and your minerals and supporting your mindset, but we're also exploring the option of the frequency of your body where some of your energy may be blocked or stagnant or feeling in a lower level of vibrational motion, then we can really start to open up and be able to use our mindset power that much more effectively to support ourselves.
It is kind of hard. It's, it's an out-there concept, isn't it? Frequency. For people to sort of go, I'm not quite getting what, what, what do you mean, my— the frequency of my body? So we're not talking about our mood, we're not talking about our vibe, you know, the vibe that we have. It's not that sort of frequency energy, it is like an electrical charge? Would it be something like that?
Well, it's kind of all of those things, to answer that in a way. You know, like, we, we have a low and high emotional frequency. So depending on where we're resonating at, if you will, we're vibrating. Einstein said everything is energy, and that's that, basically. Everything, whether it be your pen or your desk or yourself, has a vibration to it. So if you are vibrating at some lower level frequencies, that's where you can have disease in the body. There's lots of information on the internet you can search about frequencies, for example, looking at particular diseases, and it'll tell you that vibrational frequency. There's also a chart of emotional frequency. So if you're living in fear and despair and worry and guilt and shame, those are low vibrational frequencies as well. So imagine like the tone of a voice, if it's kind of harsh and it scares you, or maybe it's offensive, like you kind of feel like you're tense and tight, well, that's a low vibrational frequency that's coming from that voice. But if somebody offers you a soft, caring, gentle— well, that's a higher vibrational feeling. So emotions can also carry those same feelings. So if you're feeling joy and gratitude and enlightenment That's a higher sense of vibrational frequency. So you're vibrating at a little bit higher level of your frequency, to say it just sort of in a simplistic way, um, opposed to the lower form. So you are made up of energy. We are energetic beings, and it's helping to support and run our systems as well as our emotions and, and all other things going on within us.
I think for so many people it would be Challenging to learn to regulate a system that we don't even realize is actually breaking, like, unless you have that kind of awareness. So what does nervous system overload actually look like and feel like in our daily lives?
Well, nervous system overload can feel a little bit like overwhelmed or feeling depleted. It can feel like the thought of positive thinking can even feel exhausting. So oftentimes when someone may be struggling and someone says, well, just change your mindset, well, it sounds really nice, but, you know, it's not that they need fixing, it's they need the right kind of support to be able to basically, as I use that analogy, you know, have the physical strength to be able to start to create the mindset. Just like going to the gym and having the physical strength to be able to build your muscle, it's the same sort of— Same sort of thing.
What I love about your work, you know, it's very much working on the whole person. You don't just take one area, you know, like some people go, oh, you feel tired or your nervous system is overloaded, you know, do breathwork or improve your diet. Or, you know, it seems to be like do this or that and sometimes in combination, but you look at everything. So how does frequency and nutrition work together? To support the nervous system in a way that mindset alone simply can't.
Right. You're exactly right. You know, we have multiple systems operating inside of our human bodies, and they're all working simultaneously to support us as we do absolutely everything. I'd heard this from someone, and they said if we actually physically knew of all the instances of how our brain is doing activities and the awareness, it would make us crazy. So, you know, We have a parasympathetic and a sympathetic nervous system operating at all times. There's things that we are aware of and there's things that we are not aware of that are happening within our bodies. And when we really work with frequency and we work with nutrition, um, it, it helps to, um, support the body and the brain.
Mm-hmm.
So again, our nervous system can be on heightened alert If we're not getting the right nutrition and our energy isn't aligned with the nutrition that we're receiving. So nutrition gives the brain and the nervous system the building blocks it needs, and frequency really supports the communication and the organization of information. So let's say you're adding in a supplement or a mineral to your body. Well, your body on its own can use that, but if you also support the frequency then your body better understands that communication to say, oh hey body, let's take this nutrition and let's use it in this way, rather than it kind of zooming around inside you going, okay, like we're in here and what are we doing exactly, if you will. That's sort of a simplistic way that helps me to understand, oh okay, that's what's happening. Frequency energizes the lines of communication so that your body can support itself that much more effectively with And it's for myself as well.
How many times I've taken a supplement or anything really, and I think it doesn't work. And you think, I'm just putting this stuff in and it's going out and it's all just very expensive.
Yeah.
And I don't feel a difference. And that is because my frequency of where I'm at at that point in time isn't matching the supplement. Is that right?
It may be. Um, again, there's a lot of variations as to the reasons it can be, but what's happening when you address it from that frequency perspective as well is the lines of communication are open. So then your body is more apt to receive it and know what to do with it, as, as you mentioned, rather than you're taking something and you're not feeling the effects. And that's what a lot of people that I've, I've spoken with have mentioned as well, is they may say, oh, I've taken something for, for this, that, or the other thing before, and it didn't really work. And when they tried it again when it's frequency tuned, then they had a different result because again, they're addressing that nutritional and the nervous system, and they're addressing the energetics and the communication at the same time.
You know, especially when we do a lot of emotional work, um, I think it's underestimated the need that when you do that work Your body needs more nutrition. It needs more support because you're doing a lot of work. It's not like you just do it on its own. It often needs to be supported. So that makes me wonder, like, when people who feel worse when they try to fix— fix in inverted commas— fix themselves, and then they think, well, I'm just not doing it right, I'm just not doing hard enough, I need to push more. What is What is the dangers of that?
Well, I think it can create a feeling of needing to be fixed and doing something wrong, whereas it's just a question of what's the right support for me in order to give my body the proper nutrition so that my conversation between my gut and my brain are on the same page. Oftentimes they say your gut is an indicator, your gut health is an indicator of what your mindset and your mind is operating, how your mind's operating on a daily basis. So we want to get that line of communication going. Oftentimes our foods are depleted of the nutrients that our body needs, and our body is made up of cells. And if our cells don't have the right minerals, which are really like the gas in the tank of your car, then that's where we may see things not functioning As we would like to have. And so what I feel like a lot of people kind of get pigeonholed into, well, I, I tried this and I took this and it didn't work, there maybe there's something wrong with me. Or again, I don't know that I can be fixed, or maybe it's just me, rather than saying, okay, well, what piece are we not addressing in this conversation? And where else could we look? What kind of support can we get for that?
When we start looking at frequency in terms of nervous system regulation and mental health, are there any primary sort of mental health conditions that you feel respond better or are best for this type of therapy, or is it across the board?
Well, that would require a diagnosis from me, and I'm not qualified to create a diagnosis. However, I can create a scenario if that helps to sort of share. So when I think about— I love— I have a chart and it's the emotional frequency chart and low vibrational frequency and high. So when I'm in the lower forms, I'm in fear and doubt and maybe worry. There's guilt and shame down there, and that's oftentimes where we can be feeling, whether it's going in to learn something new or maybe we have had a struggle in our life and maybe we feel like we've tried some things, and, and maybe we feel like we can't be fixed or there's something wrong with us. Now, if we're living in that space and we're looking for resolve, it's kind of a sticky place to be because it's hard to get out of there. It's hard to self-support, to have greater beliefs. Now, you can practice gratitude because gratitude— you can't be negative and feel grateful at the same time. It's physically impossible for your brain to do that. So there's a lot of ways outside of nutrition that you can elevate your emotional frequency. You can go walk around on the grass barefooted and ground yourself. You can be out in nature. You can listen to some frequency music. There's a lot of different ways that you can help to elevate yourself so that you're in that space and operating in higher emotional frequencies. So when you look to solutions like mindset, or if you're looking for therapies or different solutions to help to support you, you are in a better emotional state of mind to be able to exercise that, if you will. Rather, because it's hard to go from down here to up here to get to where you want to go if you're not addressing your frequency of emotion.
When someone starts to begin to regulate their frequency, obviously influencing their nervous system, what are some of the first shifts that they can— do you think that they can experience or feel, see, to know that they are Actually making some progress.
Well, even an example of being grateful. So let's say you are in a moment where you're feeling less than grateful, and I, I would suggest just looking at something in the room and saying you're grateful for it. I'm grateful for my slippers. I'm grateful for my coffee, my water. Just something. It doesn't have to be anything. It can just be whatever you're seeing in your visual at the moment, and you will suddenly notice a difference in how you're— difference in how you're feeling instantaneously. So that's a, a simple way to have a physical experience of a shift in your, in your frequency just by practicing gratitude. And that's why they say that truly is one of the greatest forms of elevating your frequency, is to be in the state of gratitude and practice gratitude on a regular basis. Because it will make that pivotal shift from lower emotional frequency to higher. And when I say lower and higher, I don't mean that on a hierarchy state, as if there's something wrong with anyone who is in that lower state. It's merely just a measurement of the vibration of that emotion.
We have binaural beats. We have music that is on a certain frequency. This is how I'm understanding what you're saying. What is a measurement? Can you give a measurement of what someone would expect to be on a higher frequency? What would that be? And what a measurement of a lower frequency would be?
I personally do not perform that type of a measurement, and I can provide you with some information to provide to your viewers and your listeners if you like. Not only does it give the vibrational frequency of the emotions themselves, but also breaks down the vibrational frequency of colors. So choosing to wear different Different colors can help to also raise your frequency. Foods have a vibrational frequency to them as well. And I also have a chart that breaks down different ailments or disease that have a variety of different frequencies that you could see as well.
That's actually fascinating to think that everything has a frequency to it. Medication would have a frequency, supplements would have a frequency, Water would have a frequency even.
Let's say if you were, um, looking like on— it's called an energetic log, and this is developed by David R. Hawkins. And he has emotions such as guilt and shame being at a vibrational frequency of 20 or 30, so very low. Despair is 50, regret is 75, anxiety is 100. Now, when we get up into the higher states, forgiveness is 350, um, bliss, serenity, 540 and 600. So significant difference. And when we think how many people are living in despair and regret and anxiety and cravings and hate and scorn and, and lower vibrational frequencies, Or our frequency is challenged on a perpetual basis by foods that deplete us and music and what we hear on the news or what we see or the people that we may be around. And also all of our devices that are helping us to stay connected are also impacting our frequency all the time. So people will ask me, well, how much frequency do I need in a day? Like, I, I use a frequency-tuned straw and have a frequency frequency-tuned water bottle and so on and so forth. I use a lot, but I'm always inundated, so my frequency is being pecked away at a little bit all the time during my day. And I don't always have time to go do 5 minutes of gratitude in between every time I may be exposed, or just in being around my computer and my phone. So I do different techniques. I use frequency-tuned nutrition and frequency-tuned aromatherapy and my straw just to keep my frequency higher in that higher state of emotional frequency all day long.
And I assume you can help people with that sort of thing.
There's a lot of different ways that you can approach your frequency needs in a variety of forms and fashion so that you're staying in that elevated state of frequency so you can operate from there. Because it's so much easier to implement your mindset practices when you are feeling grateful, when you have belief. When you are joyful rather than feeling in those lower vibrational states.
It does. I can understand now why you say it goes well beyond just mindset, because a lot of affirmations— you can feel really down and just keep saying affirmations, and people go, well, these affirmations just don't work for me. You know, they might work for someone else, but they're working for someone else because that person is obviously maybe operating on a higher frequency already. Than you. So you need to do something way prior to the affirmation. You have to start looking at your base level, I guess. And that would be, I, I'm assuming, because I'm about to ask you, uh, the type of food you put in your body, how hydrated you would be for your electrical system. And that's a very unusual straw you're drinking from, from the side, not from the top. Is that something to do with frequency?
Well, this is a double-purpose straw, so it's a side-sipping straw to be a wrinkle reducer, because when you're drinking, you're making puckering marks. Um, so if you side sip, you're not. But this one is also tuned with 11 harmonic frequency, 8 of which are tuned to the organs' optimal, uh, frequency. So every time I drink through this, it's tuning whatever I'm drinking and it's raising my frequency. So I'm able to help to support my frequency all day long just by using a straw like this. And you talked about low vibrational or low frequency foods— packaged processed foods, fast foods, additives, sugars— things like that will cause you to experience low frequency. So imagine if someone's already feeling trauma that is having them positioned in those feelings. Of despair and guilt, shame, fear. And then you're adding processed food on top of that. Your, your gut health is not being supported to give your body the nutrients, your cellular support to help to support your brain. And it's kind of like a cycle going around and around and around. So, you know, it's really important. We're just, we're just— I think more people often say no more about their cars than their bodies. Um, so imagine if you never changed the oil in your car, you never changed the oil filter, or if you didn't put any gas, or you never changed the tires. That's basically, in essence, what we're doing with our body. We're just running it on, on, on the rims and like—
Absolutely.
And not as well as it could be. So we're not getting the, the kind of performance we would want out of our system because we're not putting in high-frequency Nutrition, we're not supporting ourselves, which in turn help to create that better sense in our bodies and our minds.
You can see, and I've seen it in my family, when someone's feeling traumatized, a bit depressed or angry, they go for junk food or processed food or something that's very simple to digest. And they're not going for, you know, when you're really angry or upset, you don't go for an apple.
Yes.
You go for cookies or ice cream, or, or you're usually not organic ice cream, you know, something like that, just because it all matches the frequency. And once you start clearing that out and raising your, your frequency because you're doing a bit of mindset work, or you, like you said, you know, we're doing exercise, you're looking after your mental health through gratitude or meditation or breathwork, then you start going, you know what, I actually do want that apple. Oh, I do want that colorful capsicum, you know, red, green, yellow capsicum or salad, or that becomes a lot more attractive. And if you go down to the low frequency foods, all of a sudden they go, gosh, they taste terrible. What is the— I won't use the word trick, but what is a way that they can stay at that frequency? It's so easy for us to drop our frequency due to external situations or even our own mental health chatter?
Well, it's kind of a combination. It's looking— I guess I'd say an awareness is where we would start, start with being aware that this is part of the operating system in our bodies and then making some decisions about how— what are we going to choose to start implementing and start in small steps. So that you can start to implement and start to gain an awareness. What I noticed the most for myself is when I became aware of how I was feeling living in a higher state of vibrational frequency each and every day. Cravings was the number one thing that I was— I was a stress eater. When I was stressed, well, get, get out of the way, I need the chocolate chips, or, you know, something, something sweet. And I just sort of found like I was like Not really. I don't really need that anymore. Even for caffeine, I didn't feel like I needed that same kind of support from— for caffeine. So my cravings went away and I started to notice that and I was aware of it and I was aware of how I was responding differently. So I'd suggest with someone, if they can start with something that is simple and easy to do and practice gratitude, listen to some Hertz music when you may be feeling that way. Notice the difference in how you're feeling. Being that it's the holidays here, you know, I've had a few more sugary treats than I normally do. And I am so aware now that I could see that my frequency dropped and that my behavior started to change a little bit. And that, you know, I was feeling not as joyful and gracious as I was before, just as a result of adding sugar. So the more that we practice this, I think the more that we develop that awareness and that allows us to make different choices Absolutely. For ourselves. Getting started, you know, it's, it's small steps. It's kind of like going to the gym. You're not going to lift the 100 pounds right off the hop. You might be starting with 2 pounds and working your way up. So we have a lot of tools that I use that make it simple and easy in my everyday to be able to maintain a higher state of frequency, from wearing a piece of jewelry, even if that's the simplest way for you, just to know that your body is being tuned on a regular basis, do something like that. So there's a lot of different ways that people can start, and it'll really create the awareness because you will feel the difference, and you'll likely start to really like it.
Yeah.
And then you'll be aware when you don't feel that way, and then you'll make new choices to help to support you to continue supporting yourself. And that's really what it's all about, is again, not being Fixed. You don't need to be fixed. You require the right support.
Love it that we have touched on awareness because that is the whole thing. When you suddenly go, you know what, I've eaten something and I just feel terrible, feel flat, I want to go and nap, I'm so tired. You get up and you feel moody. That is the frequency. So you've changed your frequency from eating something or an argument. may have had or whatever. So it's that sort of awareness that happens. What's one thing that you would like our listeners to take away today around how to start fine-tuning their awareness? Just to like, how do they just stop and go, oh, this is, this is my aha moment, I get what, I get what Carla's talking about now, right?
And thank you for allowing us to explore this conversation because as you mentioned, many people are not aware Or maybe they've heard of it and felt like it was woo-woo, and really, um, I'll leave some other links for some videos people can watch about the frequency of, of water and how you can change it just with a simple word. So, um, what people can do is just know that you're not failing. You don't need to be fixed. It's just a matter of being aware that you can address Frequency of your body and frequency of your emotional state, along with other pieces of your support. And do something that's simple— practice gratitude. Even if you are lying in bed and you find it hard to get up today and you're feeling less than, is there something that you can look at and say to yourself, I'm grateful for? And just feel the difference inside of yourself. See that awareness. And find something else that may become addicting. And when you notice yourself slipping into negative thought, find something quickly that you can replace by saying you're grateful for, because once again, your brain cannot operate in a state of negativity and also be grateful at the same time.
Thank you so much, Carla, for coming on and sharing this wisdom with us. And I do— you do have, like you said, a pendant and other tools that people can go onto your website and have a look to see, to start using just to help them attune their frequency. Is that right?
That's correct. Yes, we have a variety of different ways that people can start supporting their frequency to help to support themselves to be able to work on their mindset and to be able to feel better. And if anyone has any questions, feel free to reach out to me through my website. All my information is there as well. And try it, try some of these techniques that I shared here today, be it free or be it a tool that I've recommended, and just see if you notice the difference.
Fantastic. And for anybody who has loved what they've heard from Carla about frequency, and it is a whole person approach, that's what we want to wellness. So we do have to consider the frequency. All her links will be in the show notes. Go there, have a chat, look at the tools that she has available, and, uh, start raising your frequency.
Yeah, absolutely. Well, thank you so much for having me, Rita. I really appreciate it. And thanks to everybody who's listening.
Thank you, Carla.
