AI Could End Deadly Diseases Sooner Than You Think

Jensen Huang's bet on GPUs as the engine for AI is already reshaping medicine and science. Within years, AI could turn fatal cancers into manageable diseases, unlock fusion energy, and create entirely new materials.

Computers have been efficiency-enabling tools for humans for a long time, but they just couldn't process the breadth of data and make judgmental decisions very well until recently. And, uh, Jensen Huang, who I'll be with in an hour, uh, just an incredible entrepreneur. You know, we— the world was built around central processing units, CPUs, for a long time. My God, we've gone a long way with them. He said there's a different way to look at computing, a different way to structure it that'll have different advantages. First, it was video games, right? Graphical processing units. But he was relentless in pursuing GPUs and GPU technology. And he had a GPU vision that he never gave up on. He built a very successful business in the niche market he was serving, but he knew it would be bigger. And boy, was he right. Yes, he was. And so, you know, these are really— this is one of the transformations in computing that have enabled AI to be the game changer it is today. And I think, again, it would just— we're going to make cancers that are death sentences today manageable conditions in the next several years. Not in decades, in the next several years. We're gonna harness fusion energy, that power of the sun, because we have artificial intelligence. We're gonna have different materials. We're gonna find ways to make our air cleaner, our lakes better, everything work more efficiently.
