A child dies every 10 seconds in this world from hunger. It's insane.
We always have believed that music is the divine art and it should be used to help people and motivate people. This seemed like a great way to do it.
In the last 5 years, we've gone from 80 million people on the verge of starvation to 385 million. I said, well, let's do a 100 billion meal challenge. 40 years ago, both Live Aid and We Are the World were two beautiful examples of how music can inspire people worldwide to care. So I thought, if we could find the right producers, and the answer was Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the most successful Grammy producers in history.
Wow, thank you, Tony. Any time you start a project, you try to find your friends. And we basically just said, hey, we got this idea. We're going to make the foundation of the song, but then the song's going to belong to everybody, and everybody can do their own version of it.
I just got to get the snare right. Tony Robbins gave me a call and said that Jimmy was involved, and boom, I'm in. Okay, when the kid comes in, we put the cymbals in.
I admire Tony to reach out to others who are literally starving.
Music is a platform for us to talk about the bigger issues in the world.
It's the power of conversation.
Grab it one more time. That's the idea.
Useful communication that could save a nation. I didn't mean to make that a rhyme.
We're getting all the most important people in.
They're all helping write the song together.
Here we go. There's gonna be some real beauty here, a little fun, so sit back and enjoy. And I think we're gonna end up with a modern anthem.
Okay, you guys ready for this? Okay, audience, are you guys ready for this? Okay, let's run it one more time. We're gonna record it. This is going on the record, guys.
I can change the world. You can change the world. You can change the world. <LYRICS>We can change the world. Love can change the world.</LYRICS> Magical.
That's the best word I could think of. And it's an honor to be a part of this.
Music is like magic. You can walk in a room with nothing, and you can walk out of that room with a song that can change minds. And when those things change, the whole world changes.
In a world where a lot of things feel out of control, you can still make a difference.
This is trying to use music in a divine way to raise spirits.
I look at life in a very open-handed way. You can't receive anything without opening your hand. We've been blessed with our gift to perform and sing, so whatever we can do to channel that energy, the time is now.
No one should go to bed not knowing where their next meal is gonna come from.
I hope the people will be moved to not just cheer the music, but find a way to give something to somebody else in need. The more we all do that, the better we are as human race. This is a work of love. That's really what it is.
