The Belief Trap: Why 99% Stay Stuck in the Same Patterns

Unexamined beliefs trap people in repetitive patterns. The speaker uses the Dickens method to uncover and release limiting beliefs, then rewires them through practice with emotional intensity. Managing your internal state, measuring progress, and becoming aware of psychological priming determines which thoughts surface and shapes your life.

If we don't change what we believe, we can change our behavior, but nothing will change. We change our beliefs, everything change. And I am not here to tell you what to believe. I can take you through a process of uncovering what's holding you back, which is always a belief. To be fearful, you have to believe that something is scary or bad for you, or could hurt you or destroy you. And yet we all know the hero's journey. How many of have something that's happened in your life years ago that was so brutal that you would never want to go through it again. You never want anybody you care about to go through it. But looking back five years, 10 years ago, I see why the universe of God created that for me. I'm stronger, I care more, I'm smarter. Thank God it happened. So I offer you something to consider to start the day. What if life was always happening for you and never to you? What if that wasn't some phrase? What if it was the deepest truth in your destiny, in your soul? That everything that has ever happened has happened for a reason and a purpose. And that it serves you. But it's our job to find how to serve us. What would happen if everything in your life, every single thing, was happening for you? Even the things you thought were happening to you? When you begin to recognize that life becomes filled with a sense of guidance and faith and purpose. And you start realizing that problems really are gifts because they've called you to grow in ways you wouldn't have without them. And that maybe you'd prefer not to have some of them. But if you're proactive, maybe you get less of those problems or you at least get better quality problems. Besides that, what makes somebody a leader? It's their ability to solve problems. They have a vision, they want to make things happen. But if you make things happen, something's going to get in your way or already been done. Leaders eat problems for breakfast. Everyone's going to have problems. The key is to get better quality problems and not have the same frickin problem over and over again because you didn't learn right. So today we're going to deal with that like it's never been dealt with. Not intellectually. We're going to deal with it in a way where, where we get these limiting beliefs out of your body and you're pick them. I'm going to tell you what they are. But before we do, to be creators, we have to know what controls our thoughts. And yes, our beliefs control our thoughts. But you have multiple beliefs. You've been taught. So which ones you select, I want to show you how that happens. So you can be the creator, not the manager. Because I want you to think about this. Well, the first thing that determines which one you pick is the state you're in. If you don't manage your state, it's going to be hurt. Your example as a leader and anything you're a part of is the state you bring. That's what makes me want to be with you. And so that's why living in a beautiful state is one of the most important decisions your life and one you'll have to remind yourself of because we spent an hour on it one day. If you don't measure something, you can't manage it. If you don't manage things, you don't know what's going on. That's usually how you get bit. Because if you measure something once a year, you're gonna have bad years. If you measure it once a month, you won't have bad years because you got 12 times to check in and make a correction. There are things outside of you that do influence you. Invisible forces. That's not like, oh, I should then feel like I'm at the effect of things. Invisible forces means we know there's gravity, so we build muscle to push against it. Otherwise you just be on the ground all day long. We know that there's radiation, so you put some sunscreen on, perhaps in certain days. In other words, invisible forces, they're not something you can't influence, but you have to be aware of them. So I'm going to start this morning with a very important invisible force that most people for some reason don't seem to know. And that is a term called priming. Priming. Jot it down. What is priming? It is a psychological principle, and it's such a simple one. But it's controlling most people's lives. See, most of us think when we think a thought. I thought that thought. I made up that thought. First of all, it's probably not even your thought. I want you right now to think of your most stressful thought. In fact, just do me a favor for one second. Take out your paper or your iPad or your phone or whatever. Write down what are your one or two most stressful thoughts that come up in your life just for a second, about yourself, about your family, about finance. What is it that maybe grabs you at times when you have this thought? What do you start to feel and what do you start to do when you have this really stressful thought? How do you start to become? How do you start to act? How do you start to feel? How do you behave when you let this stressful thought dominate your thinking? If you know one or two stressful thoughts that really get you kind of know what tends to trigger them. What you feel you experience real fast. Think of a really positive thought that sometimes strikes you. What's the thing you focus on sometimes that lights you up? What's the thought you have that makes you really happy? What's the thought that makes you feel really fulfilled? What's a thought that makes your life feel meaningful? You may not have it as much as the other thought. You might have it more. I don't know. So your thoughts are triggered by many things. Number one, your energy level. When your energy level is low, which thoughts show up? The happy thoughts or the painful thoughts? No question about it. That's why managing your state is you're still in your number one job. You don't want to just manage your state. You want to train yourself where that is, your base. That doesn't mean you're happy as hell every moment. A beautiful state could be focused. It could be being grateful. It could be getting curious. It could be being playful, fun. It could be a courageous move, a bold move. It doesn't mean you're happy. Happy all the time. That's bullshit. Nobody's one thing all the time. But I want you to get why being in a beautiful state is so important. Because it'll define your thoughts. It's the level of voltage in your body. Low voltage thoughts, low voltage, not a lot of action. And there are certain things you've choose to use to go low voltage. And by the way, there are times you want to be low voltage. You want to relax, you don't want to think, you don't want to do anything. There's nothing wrong with that. But today it's a situation where we've used so much social media like we used to use television, only it's on steroids because they know how to wire you. So now you doom scroll forever. You get caught up in a world where they know the algorithm, what's going to trigger you and keep you there. And so you're no longer running the show. Now you are the manager of your circumstances. If you want to be in the command chair, you have to know what shapes you. So number one, stop thinking this is your thought or that it's unique. It is not unique to you. It is bullshit. Now here's the key. Thoughts. If I told you 100 years ago you could fly to the moon and back, you would have called me a lunatic. That's where the term lunatic comes from. Of course, we've done it now, so people don't use that term very much. That's what lunatic is. Lunatic. They're crazy. Someone says we're the moon and back. If I told you 25, 50 years ago, there's gonna be a box in your pocket that you can pull up and you can hit some buttons and you'll be able to see and talk to people anywhere on Earth. Because there's these invisible waves around the earth and it's going to connect those visible ways to your box. And you're going to see, feel and connect to people like that. We thought it's insane. Now you know it's in your pocket, you take it for granted, right? It's a lot more than that in your pocket, isn't it? So I want to tell you another thought. Thoughts are those same vibrations. They're out everywhere. The only difference is how you use this vessel here. Think of it like cable tv. If you use your body one way, you're going to turn on comedy. Turn another, it's horror. Turn on another, it's sad, depressing stories. Turn on another one and you're going to have an epic story. This determines which thoughts you bring in. That is why managing your state is so important. How many get this here, say aye. So it's not about being a positive thinker. I don't believe in positive thinking. I've told you, I don't say, go to your garden and chant, there's no weeds, there's no weeds. No, there's friggin weeds here. Let's rip them out. But let's plant something new, though. If you just rip them out and wait for something, more weeds will come. So I want to show you now what priming means. Because most of you are not thinking your own thoughts. Those thoughts you have, you use them to go home. So if you change your home, like we talked about yesterday and today, we're gonna really change it. We do this process called Dickens where you're gonna discover the beliefs that have limited you and rip them. I mean, get them out of your body, not intellectually, physiologically, and replace them with something new. You'll have new thoughts because your beliefs control that, as do your values. Again, if you're security driven, you know every exit in this room. If you're adventure driven, you don't know where you came in, right? What you notice is based on those things, but there's something else, and it's called priming. Now, what is priming? It is a tool that's been used on you. I'd like you to use it for yourself. I'd like you to become the person who's the creator versus someone who's shaping you. And all priming is simply this. You think something's your thoughts, but something happens before it that primes you to think. That thought, how many think priming might be something you want to take control of rather than control you, say I. So here's the cool thing. It's very easy to take it back. Now, how does this work? Also, if you really want to take it back, you want to prime yourself so often that it doesn't matter what somebody says. You stay in the place you want. That's like building a muscle, right? I'll give you an example. There's a book I encourage you all to read. It's called the Talent Code. The Talent Code. And this book talks about. You see it up on the screen by Daniel Coyle. It talks about how we walk ourselves. In fact, the focus of this book is on parts of Russia. Certain families like Serena and Venus Williams, for example. How do you get two members of a family to be the best in the world? How do you have certain cities in Russia where they have. I think it's like something like 25 gold medalists in this one tiny little town. And what they found out is these people have been primed to be the best over and over, forever. But not only be the best, they did one more thing. And this is what I want you to do in priming and what I try to do with myself. You don't just practice something like tennis. You practice just beyond your comfort, your ability. Right. You get to that uncomfortable level of uncertainty that every creative person knows is the only way real creativity happens. Otherwise, your need for certainty makes you keep doing the same thing. And you don't grow, but you do it over and over again. And here's the whole lesson. I'll give you the whole book in one thought. It's all about myelin. Myelin is that white stuff you've ever seen in the brain. Well, it goes through your whole nervous system. If you do something like these anchors that we've done a few on with a firewalker, things like that, or a certain phrase. Yes. And you do it again and again and again and again with enough emotional intensity. It's not just repetition. With enough emotion, you get wired. You grow violent. So think of this way. When you. You're new at something, you're not good. I don't care who you are. That's why most people don't try new things after they get older, Right? You weren't good at walking to start with, right? So what happens though, is if you do something and you do it again, and you do it again instead. Think of one little tiny string of connection versus being wired. Think of old bandwidth where you used to have aol, used to hear. Does anybody else remember that? Right? It took forever versus lightning like speed. I'm wired for the feelings that I have now. I have wired myself.
