Most people don't realize how conditioned they are to respond a certain way, or that the limits are self-imposed. You may have heard stories about things like in a circus, how they train an elephant. When an elephant is just a little baby elephant, what they do is they take that little elephant and put a big giant chain on it, and the elephant tries to struggle and get around, and then pretty soon the elephant learns by conditioning it's not gonna do any good to struggle anymore. It's not gonna even do any good to try and make something change. And gradually they can make it less of a chain, so pretty soon it's this little tiny rope that this giant elephant could rip out of the wall in a heartbeat. But it's so conditioned it doesn't even try. And a lot of us have learned to be helpless. We've learned that we have certain limits and we don't even realize we have those limits because we perceive ourselves as being really strong. The challenge for us in our society and in our lives is we have so many limits we're not aware of that control how we think and how we feel. We have this incredible thing called a brain that no one's ever taught us how to use. It's the greatest computer on Earth, and yet no one ever gave us an owner's manual. Hello.
