What culture do we live in today? Blame. If there's a problem, find somebody to blame and attack them. Because what blame allows you to do is step away from your own vulnerability of what you may have done to make this happen. You're not beating yourself up because you had nothing to do with it, but you can still take responsibility as part of the collective. That's the power of it. Now, if we want to make progress, One of the most important new habits is for you to learn to blame effectively, because I know I could never convince you not to blame. So I'm not going to try to get you not to blame, but we're going to teach you how to blame effectively, elegantly, consciously blame people. Part of what makes us blame people— and so we want to make sure the problem is somewhere else, not us. But the problem with that is if we blame them, we can't grow.
