Humans crave tension and adrenaline, which is why we ride roller coasters and free-fall towers. The safety net lets us feel real danger without actual risk. Shaolin argues we apply the same logic to life outside the park, chasing challenges within an invisible safety framework.

We human beings are thriving on tension. Very simple examples. One of my teachers, he literally asked me, there are so many amusement parks, right, in this world. What is so amusing? The freefall towers, the roller coasters. In real life, why would you expose yourself to like such high-speed roller coasters and risking the danger? The difference in amusement park is, you know that there is a safety net. No, it is made to call up the adrenaline, but at the same time, because it's based on amusement, there's also the safety nothing's gonna happen. We use it because it gives us something. The only difference right now is that when we leave the amusement park and enter into real life, that real life seemingly is so real that we forget that it still is based upon the same principle of tension.
