From Brokenness to Breakthrough: How God Healed Me, My Body, and My Purpose | The Shift Her Podcast

In this solo podcast episode, Rosangela Atte, founder and CEO of The Shift Her, shares her life story as the foundation for her faith‑driven, spirit‑led coaching brand. She recounts growing up fatherless and experiencing childhood emotional neglect (CEN), a traumatic Vespa accident at 19 that led to an unexpected pregnancy, and a prophetic prayer that resulted in the birth of her son, a future maxillofacial surgeon. In her early 30s she developed Graves' disease and rheumatoid arthritis, which she attributes to unresolved trauma, citing Dr. Gabor Maté’s work on the body‑mind connection. She describes a six‑month period of deep surrender where she “died to herself,” receiving spiritual authority and anointing. Rosangela weaves biblical passages (e.g., Psalm 38, Isaiah 53, Romans 12:2) with contemporary neuroscience—neuroplasticity, amygdala hyper‑vigilance—to explain how trauma is stored in the brain and body and how intentional focus, prayer, and scriptural truth can rewire neural pathways. She outlines The Shift Her’s coaching methodology: integrating biblical truth, neuroscience, and prophetic insight to guide women from survival mode to freedom, identity, and purpose. The episode concludes with a heartfelt invitation for listeners to subscribe, join the community, and step into their God‑given calling, emphasizing that scars become conduits of God’s glory when surrendered in obedience.

Hello, beloved, and welcome to The Shift Her. I'm Rosangela Atte, founder and CEO of The Shift Her. I am a certified Christian life and brain coach, a prophetic voice, a mentor, wife, mother, and grandmother. What is The Shift Her? The Shift Her is a faith-driven, spirit-led coaching brand designed to help women break free from trauma, emotional wounds, and limiting beliefs, and step fully into their God-given identity and purpose. It combines biblical truth, neuroscience, and practical strategies to guide women from survival to freedom, renewing their minds, regulating their nervous system, and walking boldly in authority. Simply put, it's about transforming pain into purpose, scars into anointing, and brokenness into breakthrough. Today I want to share with you not just a story but a journey, a journey of pain, trauma, and surrender, and ultimately supernatural restoration. I want you to understand why I do what I do, why I walk in authority to empower women, and how God can take every broken piece of your life and turn it into oil for your anointing. This is the story of my healing, my calling, and the blueprint I use to help women walk from survival into freedom and full identity in Christ. I grew up without a father, abandoned as a baby. I carried the deep ache of rejection and the silent question, am I worthy of love? Am I enough? My mother did her best, but she was emotionally unavailable and broken, and my stepfather was not a source of safety. I was left to navigate life with emotional wounds that went unspoken and unattended. This is the reality of what psychologists and trauma experts call CEN— childhood emotional neglect. When a child's emotional needs are consistently unmet, children like me learn early that their emotions, their cries of attention, and their needs don't matter. And we adapt by numbing, performing, and over-functioning to survive. For a fatherless girl, the world can feel unsafe. There's a deep-seated longing for love and approval. Often sought in external sources, in relationships, or even risky circumstances. For me, that longing led to pregnancy at 19, a desperate search for connection. I searched for belonging and love in someone else because I hadn't yet found it within the Father's heart. In August of 1994, my life took a literal and spiritual Turn. I was riding on a Vespa with Daniele, my boyfriend, in Pompeii, Italy. Suddenly, we collided with a car door. I was thrown 15 feet into the air. I landed on the edge of a sidewalk, and in that moment, all I could think was, am I going to be able to walk again? I thought I had broken my back. I was taken to a clinic, then transferred to a hospital in Naples. They ran x-rays, MRIs, and ultrasounds focused on my torso and my pelvis. Later, when I discovered I was pregnant, the doctors suggested termination, citing the imaging and the risk it posed to my unborn child. For a 19-year-old girl, the weight of that decision was crushing. Fear, shame, and confusion were suffocating. But in the middle of that storm, I turned to the only one who could give me wisdom and peace and direction— God. I went into the bathroom, shut the door, and I prayed. God, I don't know what to do. I am so scared. I am unworthy of your love, but please forgive me and show me what to do. And in that sacred moment, the Lord spoke to me so clearly. He said, choose life, and your faith and obedience will heal your child. Without hesitation, I said, God, I will obey you, and if you heal my child, I want the sign to be his blue eyes. That prophetic declaration was a seed of faith in a dark season. It was the beginning of my journey. From that moment, peace replaced fear. I began to envision my child as whole, healthy, and thriving. On May 29th, 1995, my beautiful son was born, perfectly whole, With black hair, rosy lips, and those icy blue eyes. Today he is a maxillofacial surgeon using his gifts to heal and restore others. His life was a mirror of God's faithfulness, and it empowered me to walk in the calling he placed on my life, helping women turn their pain into purpose and step Into their full God-given identity. In my early 30s, I faced additional trials. I developed Graves' disease and later rheumatoid arthritis. These autoimmune diseases weren't random. They were connected to years of unresolved trauma, neglect, and chronic stress. As Dr. Gabor Maté explains, trauma lives in our bodies, shaping the immune system, the nervous system, and even gene expression. He explains how trauma is not what happens to you but what happens inside of you as a result of what happens to you. You see, our bodies remember what our minds try to forget. The tension, the fear, and unresolved grief from my childhood and early adulthood manifested as physical illness. But God showed me that in order to be fully healed physically, I had to be healed spiritually Emotionally and physiologically. During a period when I had to stay home because of a shoulder injury at work, God led me into 6 months of deep, painful, and refining work, just him and me. In that crucible, I died to myself. I surrendered my old ways and released everything that did not resemble Christ. It was a crushing of the flesh, a time that birthed in me anointing, spiritual authority, and the power to set others free. Science now confirms what God's word has been teaching for thousands of years. The brain and nervous system are plastic. They can be rewired and healed. Trauma also deeply affects the amygdala. The emotional fear center, causing hypervigilance, anxiety, and overreactions. The Bible shows us that trauma doesn't just live in our hearts, it affects our minds and our bodies. Scripture tells us that the brokenhearted can be healed, that peace restores the flesh, and that God can renew our minds so that our thoughts and our nervous system can be rewired for freedom and wholeness. This is exactly what neuroscience confirms today: that trauma is stored in the body, like I said. But intentional focus, spiritual surrender, and God's healing power can rewire the brain and calm the nervous system. I'm just going to read a few verses here. Psalm 38:3 says, because of your wrath, there is no health in my body. There is no soundness in my bones because of my sins. This shows how deep emotional or spiritual burden affects physical health. Proverbs 14:30 says, a tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot. Stress and anxiety and trauma literally weigh on our bodies. Isaiah 53:3-5 says, he was despised and rejected, he was pierced for our transgressions. Crushed for our iniquities, upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and by his wounds we are healed. Emotional and physical suffering is connected, and healing comes through God's redemptive work. Romans 12:2: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. God's word shows that our thought patterns can be rewired through intentional focus and transformation. 2 Corinthians 10:5, that we take every thought captive to obey Christ. Thought regulation, like cognitive reframing, is a spiritual and neurological practice. Philippians 4:8, think on these things. Intentional focus on positive, truthful things strengthens new neural pathways. Proverbs 15:1, a gentle answer turns away wrath, but But a harsh word stirs up anger shows that connection between emotional states, stress responses, and physiological reaction. Psalm 147:3, he heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. God's healing affects emotional trauma that manifests in the body. Isaiah 61:1-3, he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to give them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning. The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Restoration is holistic— emotional, spiritual, and physical. Ezekiel 36:26: I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you. I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. God can literally renew the inner self, enabling new emotional and physiological responses. Isn't he just wonderful? Jeremiah 31:33: I will put my law within them and I will write it on their hearts and I will be their God and they shall be my people. Internal transformation leads to external behavioral and neurological change. This is why my coaching combines biblical truth, neuroscience, and prophetic insight because breakthrough isn't only emotional or spiritual, it's neurological, Physiological, and deeply transformative. Those 6 months of crucible shaped everything I am today. When you survive trauma, you gain authority to help others break cycles of pain, abandonment, and fear. When you overcome, you are equipped to guide others out of survival mode into freedom, purpose, and identity. At 50 years old, after decades as a chef and business owner, God called me into coaching. He didn't need me perfect. He needed me yielded. He wanted me to use my life, my pain, and my prophetic experiences to guide women toward healing deep emotional and spiritual wounds, renewing their minds through neuroplasticity and biblical truth, stepping boldly into authority and identity. I help women move from survival to full surrender, empowering them To walk in freedom, clarity, and kingdom assignment. Your scars are not mistakes. They are conduits of God's glory. Your obedience in brokenness becomes oil that lights the path for others. I want to leave you with this encouragement, beautiful daughter of God. It's never too late. You haven't missed your calling. Say yes today. Step out of fear and into purpose. Allow the oil on your life to flow Let your scars become authority and walk boldly in your God-given identity.
