From Pain To Purpose: Discovering Your God-Given Assignment

In this solo Shifter Podcast episode, certified Christian life‑and‑brain coach Rosangela Atte blends biblical teaching, neuroscience, and personal coaching to help women transform their pain into purpose. She opens by declaring that purpose is the "oxygen to the soul" and cites Ephesians 2:10 to frame identity as a divine masterpiece. She explains how trauma hijacks the nervous system—locking the pre‑frontal cortex in survival modes (flight, freeze, fawn)—and how neuroplasticity allows the brain to rewire when healing occurs. Rosangela draws parallels with biblical figures (Joseph, Moses, Esther, Paul) whose suffering became the catalyst for their God‑given assignments. She offers a practical four‑step framework for uncovering purpose—gifts, talents, passions, and trials—followed by concrete somatic breathing, heart‑belly hand‑placement, and journaling exercises designed to activate the parasympathetic system and integrate both brain hemispheres. She highlights scientific benefits of living purposefully (immune strength, resilience, longevity) and concludes with a prayer, a call to action for listeners to engage in coaching, and an invitation to share the episode. The episode’s purpose is to equip women with theological, scientific, and embodied tools to recognize and step into their God‑ordained assignments.

Welcome to the Shifter Podcast, where faith meets neuroscience, healing meets identity, and women rise into the fullness of who God created them to be. A space where you learn how to turn your pain into purpose. I'm your host, Rosangela Atte, certified Christian life and brain coach, prophetic voice, mentor, wife, grandmother, and a woman on a mission to help you renew your mind, Regulate your nervous system and break free from the lies that have kept you stuck so you can walk in your God-given identity and discover your purpose. This is a space for raw stories, real breakthroughs, and spirit-led conversations that will shift you from surviving to thriving. If you're ready to heal, be whole, and walk in freedom, you're in the right place. Let's shift her. Today we're diving into one of the biggest questions of life. What is my purpose? We'll explore how neuroscience, biblical truth, and even our own trials point us toward the assignment God created us for. If you've ever wondered why you're here and how to find that fire in your belly, this episode is for you. I need you to hear me today. Your pain was not wasted. Every tear, every trial, every season of wilderness and waiting, it has been shaping you, preparing you, and positioning you for your purpose. Purpose is oxygen to the soul. Without it, we may breathe physically, but we suffocate spiritually. Purpose is the difference between waking up in the morning dreading the day and rising with fire in your belly. Ephesians 2:10 tells us, we are God's masterpiece, created anew in Christ Jesus to do the good works he prepared in advance for us to do. That word masterpiece means work of art. Imagine God as the artist, brush in hand, designing you not as a copy but as a one-of-a-kind. Your purpose isn't an accident. It's intentional, divine, and it's vital. But here's the kicker: you can't live your masterpiece while carrying the weight of unhealed wounds. Because unhealed wounds distort your vision, they whisper lies that drown out destiny. And here's what the Lord is saying: the pain you have been through and the stretching you've experienced were necessary to acclimate you to your new environment. You cannot bring your old nature and connections where I'm taking you. I know the uprooting is painful, but the place in which you were comfortable was limiting you. Your identity and purpose could not develop in that old soil. The letting go was vital to bring forth the fulfillment of my purpose in your life. Let's talk brain science. Neuroscience shows us that trauma doesn't just happen in our story, it happens in our nervous system. When we're stuck in flight, flight, freeze, or fawn, the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that is responsible for creativity, vision, and decision-making, goes offline. That means if you're living in survival mode, you literally cannot access your highest God-designed potential. But here's the good news: neuroplasticity. Your brain can change. New pathways can form. Healing doesn't just restore your heart, it rewires your mind. Romans 12:2 already declares this: Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Healing regulates your nervous system. Healing quiets the alarm bells. Healing makes space for clarity, and in that space, the Holy Spirit whispers direction, calling, and purpose. Without healing, you will mistake coping For calling. But with healing, you will recognize the difference between survival strategies and divine assignments. The Bible is full of men and women who discovered purpose in the very places they once felt broken. Joseph— he was betrayed, abandoned, imprisoned, yet Genesis 50:20 says, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to save many lives. His betrayal became the bridge to his assignment. Moses—he was rescued from the Nile waters, raised in Pharaoh's palace. Later, he would lead God's people out of Egypt through the waters of the Red Sea. The place of his rescue became the metaphor of his purpose. What a story! That is not a coincidence. That's divine poetry. Esther. Orphaned, exiled, overlooked, yet chosen for such a time as this. Her pain positioned her for purpose. Paul, once a persecutor, then radically transformed into the writer of 2/3 of the New Testament. His zeal didn't disappear. God redirected it. And the Lord says, pain has been your teacher. If you let it do its work without rebelling, it will impart wisdom that no other classroom could. Don't resist it. Let it teach you. It knows what you need to learn in order to fulfill your destiny. This wilderness has trained you for the palace. So how do you begin to uncover your purpose? It's not always a lightning bolt moment. Sometimes it's a breadcrumb trail. Look at these 4 clues: gifts, the skills and abilities God has graced you with; your talents, natural strength, You may be dismissed as ordinary. Your passions— what puts fire in your belly, what makes you come alive— and your trials— the very pain you've endured often points to the people you're called to serve. Your mess becomes your message, and your test becomes your testimony. But purpose is never about hustling to prove yourself. It's about partnering with God. Let's pray. Lord, show me the gifts you planted in me. Show me the passions you've ignited. Redeem the trials I've endured and reveal the assignment you created me for. In the name of Jesus, amen. But here's the thing, purpose isn't just about you, it's about others. Joseph's obedience preserved nations. Esther's courage saved her people. Paul's letters still disciple believers today. Neuroscience backs this up. Living with purpose strengthens the immune system, increases resilience, and even improves longevity. Purpose doesn't just bless the kingdom, it blesses your brain and your body. And the Lord is saying, I need you to wear your royal robes and walk in authority. All of heaven is begging you. The very wilderness you thought would kill you is the training ground that has equipped you. This is your kairos moment, the season to step into Isaiah 61 anointing. The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and to comfort all who mourn. Beloved, your pain has prepared you to carry the very anointing. Purpose isn't just discovered in thought. It is embodied. Let's try these exercises this week. Sit with both feet on the ground. Inhale deeply through the nose, 4 counts. Hold for 4 and exhale slowly through the mouth for 6. Repeat this 5 times. As you exhale, whisper, Lord, reveal my purpose. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system, calming anxiety so you can hear God more clearly, and it quiets the amygdala Our fear center, and it engages the prefrontal cortex, allowing insight and revelation to rise. Place your hand on your heart, the other on your belly. Say, God, align my heart and my purpose. Notice the sensations. If there's tightness, warmth, release, breathe into those places. Somatic awareness connects your body and your spirit. Trauma is stored in the body. So by inviting God in those sensations, you create safety and release blockages that may keep you from walking in purpose. This week, take out your journal and reflect: What gifts and talents feel most natural to me? What passions set my heart on fire? What trials have shaped me, and how might God use them to bring healing to others? How has my story, like Joseph's betrayal, Moses' rescue, and Esther's courage, or Paul's transformation, been preparation for purpose? And write this prayer: Lord, I surrender my pain to you. Turn it into purpose. Open my eyes to the assignment written in my story. Give me courage to walk in it. Writing engages both hemispheres of the brain. It integrates logic and creativity, helping hidden insights surface. Pairing journaling with prayer opens a channel for the Holy Spirit to reveal what's already planted within you. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you that you are the author of our lives and that every breath we take is filled with intention. Lord, your word says in Ephesians 2:10 that we are your masterpiece, created for good works prepared in advance. Today I lift up every listener. I ask that you would heal every wound that has clouded their vision, break off every lie that says they are not enough, and replace it with your truth that they are chosen, loved, and called. Holy Spirit, awaken the gifts you have placed inside of them. Fan the flames of their passions. Redeem the trials they have endured and turn their pain into purpose. Just as you did with Joseph, with Esther, Moses, Paul, and with me. Let their story become a testimony that sets others free. Lord, give them courage to walk boldly in their assignment, wisdom to recognize the doors you're opening, and peace to rest in the truth that their purpose is not earned but received from you. In Jesus' mighty name we pray. Amen. Daughter, your story is holy ground. The enemy wanted your pain to destroy you, but God is using it to deploy you. Like Joseph, you will rise and say, what the enemy meant for evil, God meant for good. Like Moses, you will lead others out of bondage with the authority of someone who has walked through deep waters. Like Esther, you will step into your assignment for such a time as this. Like Paul, your scars will testify of God's glory. So let me ask you, Will you let him turn your pain into purpose? If this episode has blessed you, please like, follow, subscribe, and share it with another woman who needs to be reminded that her pain was not wasted. God will use it for purpose.
