Healing Before Purpose — Becoming Whole in Christ

In this solo Shifter Podcast episode, certified Christian life‑and‑brain coach Rosangela Atte argues that true fulfillment of God‑given identity and purpose requires first healing deep wounds, especially unforgiveness. She opens with a theological framing that each person is a "living word of God" spoken once, and that the purity of that word is compromised when trauma and bitterness act as static. Rosangela shares her own painful history of growing up without a father, cultural resentment toward male authority, and how that manifested in manipulative relationships and a strained marriage. She cites biblical mandates for forgiveness (Matt 6:14‑15; Hebrews 12:15) and illustrates how unforgiveness is a kingdom law that blocks freedom. The episode then moves to a scientific perspective, referencing Bessel van der Kolk’s concept that trauma is an ongoing imprint on mind, brain, and body, and Gabor Maté’s work linking suppressed emotions to disease. She explains how chronic resentment keeps the amygdala in hyper‑vigilance, floods the system with cortisol, and rewires the nervous system, while forgiveness leverages neuroplasticity to strengthen the prefrontal cortex. Practical, embodied healing tools are offered: box breathing, the 5‑4‑3‑2‑1 grounding exercise, embodied prayer with specific scripture, and mind‑renewal declarations that pair identified wounds with biblical truth. Rosangela also outlines a theological view of women’s identity in Christ, describing feminine divine traits (nurture, gentleness) and masculine traits (provision, protection) as both present in believers. She concludes with a heartfelt prayer that declares freedom from bitterness, restoration of identity, and activation of purpose, followed by a call to action to follow the podcast, leave a review, and consider her coaching programs. The overall message is that healing clears the filter, forgiveness rewires the brain, and wholeness enables women to walk in unfiltered, powerful purpose.

So if you're ready to heal, be whole, and walk in freedom, you're in the right place. Let's shift her. Today's episode is called Healing before purpose, becoming whole in Christ. We're going to talk about a hard but freeing truth: you cannot walk fully in your God-given identity and purpose if you're still bound by unhealed wounds. Purpose without healing becomes heavy, but when healing comes first, purpose flows from a place of wholeness, authority, and joy. Sister Peg Dolan once said, each of us is a word of God spoken only once. We have a word to speak with our lives, and if we do not speak it, it may never be heard. That is a very powerful truth. Think about that for a moment. You are a living word of God spoken once, never to be repeated. Your life itself carries a divine message. And we know from scripture that the word of God is not It is alive, creative, and powerful. Genesis 1 shows us, and God said, let there be light, and there was light. His word created everything. Then John 1 reminds us, in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Through him all things were made. That word is Jesus, and if Jesus, the living word, dwells inside of you, then you carry the same power to release life, create change, and to speak into atmospheres. Your voice isn't small, it carries eternity. Your story isn't insignificant, it carries creative power. Your life isn't random, you are a divine word spoken once, carrying the breath of God. But here's the key: the purity of that message matters. If your hearts are wounded, if unforgiveness is lodged deep inside, if trauma is still filtering how we see and speak, then what comes out can be distorted. And God loves you too much and values your voice too much to leave you bleeding through your calling. That's why healing is not optional. Healing clears the filter. Forgiveness untangles the static. Wholeness makes your voice pure again. And here is where many of us get stuck: unforgiveness. Unforgiveness is like static on the frequency of your message. It clogs the heart, it clouds the mind, and it distorts the voice of God within us. Jesus said in Matthew 6:14-15, for if you forgive others their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Forgiveness isn't optional; it's a kingdom law. Hebrews 12:15 warns us: See to it that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. Bitterness doesn't just hurt you; it contaminates everything you release. Unforgiveness keeps you tethered to the pain of the past, but forgiveness breaks the chains. And it doesn't excuse the offender, but it unchains you. And Jesus modeled this for us, hanging on the cross in the midst of his greatest suffering. He prayed, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. If Jesus could release forgiveness in his deepest pain, it shows us that forgiveness isn't about feelings, it's about freedom. Now let me get raw and honest with you. This isn't theory for me. This is my life story. I dealt with deep unforgiveness for decades. It was a pattern that kept repeating in my life. I grew up Italian in a culture where men were revered and served. That planted deep hatred in me toward male authority figures. Anytime a man made me feel less than, anger exploded in me like a fire I couldn't control. On top of that, I grew up without a father, so I didn't have to submit to male authorities. I was never shown real love by a man, and that left a gaping wound I didn't even recognize, but it bled into every relationship. So what did I do? I used men, I manipulated men, and I had zero respect for them. And of course, that deeply affected my marriage. My husband came from his own rough background, surrounded by dominance and survival. So my unhealed anger and his roughness created an explosive formula. It took us decades, decades of dying to ourselves, of learning to submit first to God and then to one another before healing truly began to take root. The pain of my father's abandonment made me believe I wasn't enough. So I made a vow: no man will ever make me feel small again. But that vow became my prison, and I see now that's why I'm so passionate about helping women discover their true identity in Christ, because I know what it is to live chained by wounds and false vows. Now let me tell you what the Lord showed me. In the spirit, there is no difference between men and women. Yes, we have different roles, but the same spirit lives in us both. Women carry the feminine traits of God, We nurture, we sustain, we comfort, we carry sweetness, gentleness, fragrance. Scripture says God himself is the giver of life. He comforts us, he is sweet, and he is even called the Lily of the Valley and the Rose of Sharon. Men carry the masculine traits of God: the provider, defender, protector, willing to lay down their lives. God is Jehovah Jireh, the provider. He is our defender, our protector. And he laid his life down for us. So women of God, hear me. You are about to be mightily used by your Heavenly Father. Your wounds don't disqualify you. They become the testimony that makes your message unstoppable. Now that we've seen what unforgiveness does to the soul, let's look at it from a scientific side. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, author of The Body Keeps the Score, says Trauma is not the story of something that happened back then, but the current imprint of that pain on mind, brain, and body. You see, unforgiveness keeps the imprint alive. Your body and brain relive the wound every time you replay the memory. Dr. Gabor Maté, in When the Body Says No, explains that suppressed emotions like bitterness, Fuel disease and inflammation. And neuroscience tells us that when you hold on to resentment, your brain stays in hypervigilance. The amygdala, the fear center, keeps firing. Stress hormones like cortisol flood our system. Over time, unforgiveness rewires the nervous system and even damages our health. But forgiveness changes the brain. This is the beauty of neuroplasticity. The brain's ability to rewire itself. When you choose forgiveness, gratitude, prayer, and scripture, you strengthen your prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain that brings peace, wisdom, and sound decision-making. In short, forgiveness heals not only our souls, but also our brains and our bodies. Now let's get practical. Healing is both spiritual and embodied. And there are some exercises that we can do to help our nervous system heal and feel safe, like breathwork, uh, box breathing, where we inhale for 4, we hold for 4, we exhale for 4, and we hold for 4. This calms the amygdala and it signals safety. Grounding, the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 method. 5 things you see, 4 you can touch, 3 we can hear, 2 we can smell, 1 we can taste. This anchors us in the present so that we can feel safe. Embodied prayer. Place your hand over your hearts and declare Psalm 116:7. Return, O my soul, to your rest, for the Lord has dealt Bountifully with you. Some mind renewal exercises like identifying the wound— what did I need that I didn't receive back then— and rewiring it with truth. Pair the wound with scripture, daily declarations: I am chosen, I will not be abandoned, I am renewed. We align spiritually, we submit and crucify the flesh. Galatians 2:20: I have been crucified with Christ. Walking in authority. Once healed, you no longer strive. You carry your purpose with strength. When you heal, everything shifts. We exhibit fruits of the Spirit like peace, joy, resilience. We have regulated thoughts, healed emotions, reduced inflammations, and restored vitality. Hebrews 12:1 says, let us lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely and and run with endurance the race set before us. Forgiveness clears the filter. Healing restores the soul. Wholeness aligns spirit, soul, and body. Once we are free from unforgiveness, the fog lifts. No more distorted lenses, no more filters shaped by wounds. We finally walk in the fullness of our identity and purpose, pure, Unfiltered, aligned with heaven. Forgiveness isn't just releasing others, it's releasing you. It's unlocking your voice, your message, and your purpose. So hear me today, healing and forgiveness are the next steps after identity. You cannot carry your kingdom purpose effectively if unforgiveness is still chaining your soul. Healing makes you free, forgiveness makes you clear, and both will make you effective in fulfilling the assignment God has placed on your life. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, we come before you in humility and surrender, Lord. Thank you for this moment, this holy pause where heaven meets earth and your spirit breathes fresh life into us. Thank you for every daughter of yours who is listening right now, Lord. You see her story, you see her wounds, you see her silent battles, and yet you also see her destiny, her authority, and the crown you have placed on her head before the foundations of the earth. Lord Jesus, you are the Word made flesh. Through you all things were created, and by you all things hold together. Today we declare that every distorted belief, every lie of abandonment, every chain of unforgiveness is broken in your mighty name. You said in John 8:36, so if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. We receive that freedom today. Holy Spirit, I ask you to move through every heart and bring to remembrance Every person, every wound, every moment that still needs to be surrendered at the foot of the cross. Let forgiveness rise like a river, not by our strength, but by yours. Where bitterness has taken root, uproot it. Where vows of self-protection have been made, shatter them with your perfect love. Where anger has silenced voices, restore boldness, authority, and purity of speech. Father, heal the nervous system responses, the trauma stored in the body, the memories that trigger survivor patterns. Teach us to breathe again, not with shallow breaths of fear, but with a deep inhale of your spirit and the exhale of rest in your love. Regulate our bodies, renew our minds, and restore our souls. Lord, we die to ourselves today, to the old patterns, the fleshly responses, the self-made vows, and we rise with you in newness of life. Galatians 2:20 declares, I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, But Christ lives in me. Let that be more than words. Let it be our reality. I bless every woman under the sound of my voice with clarity of identity, with purity of message, with wholeness of heart. I declare boldness to walk in purpose without filters, without distorted lenses, without the weight of unforgiveness. Lord, release double portion where their enemy had tried to steal. Restore joy where sorrow lived and crown them with beauty for ashes. Now, Father, raise up your daughters, women who will carry both the fragrance of your gentleness and the fire of your authority, women who know they are chosen, anointed, and unstoppable in Christ. Hallelujah! Let them run their race with endurance, with healed souls, and with the confidence of beloved daughters of the King. We thank you, Lord, that this is not the end but the beginning of deeper healing, greater freedom, and fuller purpose. Seal this word in their hearts. Let it bear fruit that remains. In the mighty, matchless name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen. Thank you for tuning in to the Shifter Podcast.
