Identity Is the Key to Inheritance | A Prophetic Word for 2026 & Beyond

In this solo devotional episode of the Rewired for Purpose podcast, host Rosangela Atte (a certified Christian life‑and‑brain coach) urges listeners to make identity in Christ, not self‑improvement, the focus of their 2026 New Year’s resolution. She explains that, just as legal identity papers are required to claim an inheritance, a clear understanding and embodiment of one’s spiritual identity is required to receive God’s promises. Drawing on biblical examples such as Joshua’s charge to be strong and courageous, the heir‑ship language of Romans 8:17, and the stories of Esther, Joseph, Daniel, and Moses, she shows how recognizing oneself as a child and heir of God unlocks authority, breakthrough, and purpose. Atte stresses that identity must be lived out—acting like royalty, maintaining purity, cutting toxic relationships, and stewarding gifts—while balancing confidence with humility to avoid pride. She calls listeners to a year of obedience, spiritual discipline, and surrender, offering prayer, encouragement, and an invitation to her coaching services at theshiftercoaching.com.

Welcome to the Rewired for Purpose podcast, where faith meets neuroscience, healing meets identity, and women rise into the fullness of who God created them to be. This is a place where you will learn how to turn your pain into purpose. I'm your host, Rosangela Atte, certified Christian life and brain coach, prophetic voice, mentor, wife, mother, grandmother, and a woman on a mission to help you renew your mind, regulate your nervous system, and break free from the lies that have kept you stuck. My heart is to empower you to walk in your God-given identity and discover your purpose. The title of today's podcast is Why Knowing Who You Are in Christ Unlocks Everything God Has Promised. Welcome, beautiful people of God. I'm so glad you're here today. I want to release a word the Lord has impressed deeply on my heart. It's a simple word, but it's a weighty one, a word that has the power to realign us To restore and to reposition us for what God has already prepared for us. Every January, we make New Year's resolutions. Uh, we reach for improvements. We set goals. We decide to read the Bible in a year, to start going to the gym, eat healthier, learn a new skill, start something new, cut that, uh, bad habit that we have. We go for improvement. And these are all good, positive things. Discipline is good. Growth is good. Learning new things is good. Stewardship is good. But this year, the Lord wants our New Year's resolution to be the pursuit of our identity in Him. And the reason why is that in order to inherit and to receive His promises, We need to know who we are. The same thing happens in the natural. We need identity papers in order to receive an inheritance, to go to the bank and take out some money. We need identity papers to travel. We need identity papers basically to do anything. And this also applies into the spirit realm. So this year is not about, you improvement, but it's about identity and realignment. Because we can improve habits and still miss God's promises. We can grow skills and still live beneath authority. But when identity is aligned, everything else follows. The word for this year and the key for this year is identity is the key to inheritance. Many believers struggle not because God hasn't promised them, but because they don't know who they are in order to receive those promises. Scripture is full of promises that were given long before they were possessed. God does not lie, and if He promised it, the promise exists. It might not exist yet in the natural realm, but the promise is there, and it's there for us to possess it as At the right time. That's why God encourages Joshua multiple times to be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. Notice what God does first. He doesn't give Joshua a strategy. He doesn't give him a map. He gives him an identity charge. He's calling out his identity. Be strong and courageous. Why? Because You cannot inherit what you don't believe you're authorized to carry, and you cannot walk into a territory that you don't know or you don't believe that you are allowed to take over. Joshua had to see himself differently before he could lead differently. Inheritance is not earned. It is not competed for. It is not begged for. It flows from Sonship. But Paul tells us in Romans 8:17, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ. Notice the order: children first, then heirs. Not servant and heirs, or slaves or workers, then heirs. Children first, then heirs. Only sons and daughters can inherit. This is why orphan thinking is so dangerous, is such a huge hindrance to receiving what God has promised us. An orphan mindset may believe in God but not in access. It may believe in the promise but not in the permission to possess that promise. And that's what happened to Esther, you know, the moment she understood and the moment She actually walked into her identity as the queen is the moment in which she received the breakthrough. She dressed as a queen. She confidently, although I'm pretty sure she was still scared, but she, she said, you know what? I am the queen. I look like a queen. I walk like a queen. I was prepared. 12 months before I was presented to the king, although it was actually longer than that, so I think I'm ready to step into my calling. And as she did, the Lord opened up the door for her. The king accepted her, he extended the scepter, and he said that he would give her any request up to the half of his kingdom. And so she received the breakthrough, which was not only for her, but actually for the whole nation of Israel. And those are the works that God has written for us to walk into, but they can only be accessed when we realize who we are and embody that identity. It's not enough to just know we are children of God. We need to embody That identity. What does it mean to embody? Well, it means that we act as such. You know, royalty has very high standards. They are very careful who they associate with. They're very careful the way they act. They're, uh, very conscious and very intentional about what they eat, what they watch, what they wear. It is a huge honor to be a royal, but it is also a huge responsibility because we represent our King and we represent the Kingdom of God. Saying that we are His children is not enough. We need to act as such. We need to take pride in who we are. We cannot speak as paupers. We cannot dress as paupers, and we should not be acting as paupers. We cannot abdicate our throne. If we believe that we are children of God, we need to sit on our throne and act as royals. It's a lot of pressure. It's very hard because our flesh tends to not wanting to obey, but it is essential to walking into God's promised land, breakthroughs, and all the promises that he has made to us. And that's why identity matters, because our authority flows from that identity, not our effort. We don't cast out fear by trying harder. We stand firm because we know who we are. God says in Deuteronomy, see, I have set the land before you. Go in and take possession. Deuteronomy 1:8. God set the land, but they had to step in. This is where many believers get stuck. They're waiting for God to do something He's already done, and they're waiting for confirmation instead of obedience. They're waiting for certainty instead of faith. They're waiting for an open door or a, a clear way. But usually when we are about to step into the promised land, there will be a giant facing us. The giants always oppose us at the threshold Of our breakthrough. What breaks through the wall is obedience and confidence, but we got to be careful because sometimes confidence can turn into pride, and we know that pride comes before the fall, but God exalts humility. So we need to walk in confidence in who we are, but not through our efforts. It is because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the authority that He has given us that we Can walk in that confidence, staying consecrated at the feet of Jesus. Because like I said, it's very easy to cross that line from, uh, humble confidence in who we are in him to arrogant pride and ego inflation. So people of God, hear me clearly. This is not a year of striving Pushing on doors, trying harder. It is a year to pursue our identity in Him and to align our life to that identity. It is a time to take care of our whole being— spirit, soul, and body. We need to steward our gifts, our talents, the authority, not squander it and use it for our own gain. We need to stay humble. We need to take charge of our life. And if we have Any connection that needs to be cut and severed because the people that we are connected to are not a good influence, but they're just plain toxic, then we need to cut them out. There's doors that we need to shut in order to walk into new ones. If you thought that walking into your identity and your purpose and your calling, that being called a child of God was going to be easy, I'm sorry, this is a wake-up call for you. This is not the time and this is not the way. 2026 and on, we need to steward, pursue our identity and our calling in Him, but it's not going to be easy. You're going to have to lay things down. You're going to have to shut doors. You're going to have to disconnect from people and habits. You know that you have habits that you need to stop. And you need to cut from your life. You need to stop watching certain shows and movies, listening to certain music, stop drinking, stop smoking, stop compromising. God is looking for purity, pure vessels that can steward the calling, that have no filter through which his spirit can flow through without any hindrance, without being tainted. We need to be empty of anything that is not of God in order for that identity to come forth pure, unaltered, unfiltered, just as God intends. It's the year to stop questioning whether you are allowed to receive, and it's the year to stop negotiating your worth and to walk as who God says you are. Identity is the key to your inheritance. Stop trying to do it in your own strength. And listen, I'm preaching to myself because I am a perfectionist. I am somebody that tries to do it all in her own strength, and I kind of tend to go ahead of God. I need to stop myself and wait, wait on Him, wait upon the Lord, wait upon His instructions. I'm a person who strives for perfectionism and excellence, which can be very good things, but sometimes they're Hindrances, and they push me to act from the flesh and often make mistakes. I have so many times had to go backwards and start over because I made a wrong choice, wrong decision, and it just delayed what the Lord was going to do because I had to do it with my own strength. And so this year, He wants us to operate from a place of confidence and rest, not striving, not pushing, Just building with Him. He will give us the blueprint. He will give us the framework. He will give us the strength to change the things in our life that we need to change, to disconnect from the people we need to disconnect from. We need to believe in His promises because God is not a man that He should lie. He's the same yesterday, today, and forever. And if He says He's going to do it, He will. I encourage you to get at His feet. Let go of all the things that you already know you need to let go of. And if there's something in your life that you're not sure or you're unaware of, He will bring it to the light and He will help you get rid of it. He wants us to walk in the fullness of our identity, not just for us, but for His kingdom. Because only by being who we are, we can manifest His glory and pursue the works that He has written in our book. And we can see this in every story in the Bible. Joseph, Esther, Daniel, Moses, so many examples of people that had to go through so many trials in order to become who they're meant to be. And only in the moment they yielded and stepped out in faith, that's when the breakthrough came. And so it is a blueprint that God operates from. It is his MO. And He's not going to change it just to make us feel better because God is unchanging. So we are the ones who need to adjust our lives and let go of everything in our agenda and embrace His plans for our life. I hope this encouraged you, and I hope this will help you walk into the fullness of our identity and purpose. Let's pray. Lord, I thank You, God, For everybody who's listening to this podcast right now, and I pray that You would help them, Lord, understand who they are in You, and that You would help them, God, pursue that identity and pursue all the things that will help them walk fully into that identity and fulfill their purpose, Lord Jesus. You will equip them. In fact, You already have equipped them with everything they need. Amen. To walk in freedom, walk in liberty, walk in victory, to step on scorpions and serpents, God, and defeat everything in their life that hinders them from walking into the fullness of who You called them to be, Lord Jesus. I thank You for speaking to us, God, for always encouraging us, Lord Jesus, to walk in Your ways because You have good plans for Your children. Amen. To prosper us, to give us a future, to give us peace, Lord. And so this is the year in which we will inherit, we will possess our inheritance as we pursue our identity in You. Amen.
