The Paradox of Faith: Trusting God When You Can’t See the Path

In this episode of the Rewire for Purpose podcast, host Rosangela Atte—a certified Christian life and brain coach—explores the paradox of faith: trusting God even when the future is unclear. She defines the paradox as the tension between a believer’s spiritual confidence and the brain’s innate demand for safety and certainty. Using Scripture (Jeremiah 29:11; 2 Corinthians 5:7, 3:18) she illustrates how God often reveals only the next step, likening it to a lamp that lights the path ahead but not the whole road. Rosangela then explains the neuroscience behind this tension, describing the amygdala’s threat‑detecting role and the prefrontal cortex’s decision‑making function, and how uncertainty is interpreted as danger. She introduces neuroplasticity, arguing that each act of obedient faith rewires the brain, creating neural pathways of trust that make future uncertainty feel safe. Biblical case studies—Abraham’s call, Noah’s ark, Moses confronting Pharaoh, Esther’s royal risk, Peter walking on water, and the woman with the issue of blood—demonstrate how obedience before seeing leads to divine intervention. She likens faith to a muscle that grows with use, encouraging listeners in seasons of uncertainty to view them as opportunities for deeper trust and miraculous breakthroughs. The episode concludes with a prayer for obedience and blessings, a reminder of the listener’s purpose, and an invitation to Rosangela’s coaching services for further spiritual and mental transformation.

This is a place where you will learn how to turn your pain into purpose. I'm your host, Rosangela Atte, certified Christian life and brain coach, prophetic voice, mentor, wife, mother, grandmother, and a woman on a mission to help you renew your mind, regulate your nervous system, and break free from the lies that have kept you stuck. My heart is to empower you to walk in your God-given identity and discover your purpose. Welcome back, friends. Today I want to talk about something that eventually we all encounter, and that's the paradox of faith, the paradox of trusting God when you cannot see the path ahead. Because if we are honest, that's where many of us We know the promises of God. We believe and we trust him. Yet when the future is unclear, when we cannot see where we are headed, something inside us wrestles. Our spirit believes, but our brain wants certainty. It wants safety. It wants clarity. It wants to know where we are going. And this tension is not a failure of faith. It's actually the place where faith Paradox is when 2 things that seem to contradict each other are both true. In the life of faith, the paradox is this: God promises that his plans are good, yet he rarely reveals the whole plan. Scripture says, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11. So God knows the destination, but we are usually given only the next step. Your word is a lamp unto my feet. Notice what it says, a lamp at our feet. In biblical times, a lamp did not illuminate the entire road. It illuminated only the steps right in front of us, enough just to walk, but not enough to see the entire journey. This is how God often leads us, step by step, faith to faith. Scripture even describes spiritual growth this way: For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7. And transformation happens from glory to glory and faith to faith. 2 Corinthians 3:18. This is the rhythm of the kingdom of God. Let's look at this from a neuroscientific God designed our brains with survival systems that constantly scan for safety. Our amygdala is always scanning for threats, and if we perceive something that feels remotely similar to an experience that we've had in the past, the amygdala starts firing. Our prefrontal cortex, which is the decision-making, thinking part of the brain, goes offline, and we end up making decisions out of out of fear, reacting to whatever we perceive as danger instead of making a clear decision based on what we actually see, not what we experienced in the past. So one of the key structures, like I said, is the amygdala, and its job is to ask one question: is this safe? And when the brain cannot predict the future, it often interprets uncertainty as potential danger. This is why seasons of transition feel uncomfortable, feel unsafe. They feel scary because the brain is asking, where am I going? Where are we going? What is it going to happen next? Is this the safe road to where we need to get? The brain wants certainty before movement. It wants To know exactly what is going to happen. But faith requires movement before we have certainty, or else it wouldn't be called faith. And this is where something beautiful happens. The brain is capable of rewiring itself, and it's called neuroplasticity, which means that it can rewire itself through experience. So every time we take a step of obedience despite the uncertainty, we send a new signal to the brain that says, I can move forward not knowing and still be safe. Over time, obedience builds neural pathways of trust, and when the Lord tells us to move forward without seeing or knowing where we're going, from our experience, we will know that we are going to be safe because He's got our back. Faith literally reshapes our brains. Now let's look at some biblical examples because the Bible is filled with people who had to walk with God without seeing the whole path. Abraham. God called Abraham to leave everything he knew, to leave his home, his country, his family, and go somewhere without a destination, without a map, just a command from God. Go. And Abraham stepped out in obedience before he knew where the journey would take him. Noah. Imagine Noah. God tells him to build an ark, but there's just one problem. It had never rained before, so Noah didn't even know what God meant. He had no scientific explanation and no evidence, just a word from God. And Noah spent decades building something that made no sense to people around him. He was even probably made fun of, but faith required obedience before the evidence of the rain. And there's Moses. God called Moses to confront Pharaoh. Let's think about that. A former fugitive shepherd was supposed to challenge the most powerful ruler in the world, and Moses had no idea how the story would unfold. He did not know about the plagues. He did not know about the Red Sea. He simply obeyed the step that God placed in front of him, and everything unfolded step by step, one instruction at a time. He literally made a way for Moses. Then there's Esther. Esther's story is another powerful example because she was an orphan girl who became a queen. And if we think about her psychological profile as somebody who had gone through Childhood trauma by losing her parents. She was raised by her cousin Mordecai. Undoubtedly, she was loved and cared for by Mordecai, but that doesn't take away the trauma that she endured by losing her parents, by losing her safety, the comfort of her home, the touch and the affection of her parents. And she became a people pleaser. Uh, we can tell that by the way she acted In the court. She was a humble, beautiful girl, but she had trauma. She was a people pleaser. She fawned. It's almost as if she had no identity because she grew up without a father, and so that was her survival mechanism. But when the moment came to save her people, although she was extremely scared and even told Mordecai that she did not want to do it because If you presented yourself in front of the king without being invited, you could die. She still did it. And approaching the king without being summoned could have meant death for her. She didn't know the outcome, but she trusted God and she stepped forward. I believe that this was pivotal in her decision when Mordecai said, who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this? And Esther stepped forward in obedience. And God used that step to change history. And there's Peter. Peter stepping out of the boat may be the most vivid picture of this paradox. Jesus did not calm the storm before asking Peter to step out of the boat. He said one word, come, and Peter stepped onto the water before knowing he could stand on it. Faith was activated through obedience, and that's when miracles happen. Because the moment Peter took his eyes off of Jesus, that's when he started to sink. You see, when we step out in faith, it's not like we are denying or ignoring the circumstances around us. We are well aware of what's going on and what could happen if God wasn't in the picture, but we are going against everything that our brain our body and the circumstances around us are telling us to do because we trust God. And that's what's so beautiful. That's what's so powerful. The fact that we completely and consciously decide to ignore what's going on to obey what God is telling us to do. And that's what creates the power. That's what makes the miracle happen, and that's what happened to the woman with the issue of blood. She went against societal norm and everything that her mind was telling her not to do. She went against all that so that she could receive her miracle because Jesus said after she was healed, your faith has healed you. Her faith manifested her healing. What's fascinating is that Scripture describes spiritual growth As a progression from faith to faith and glory to glory. Each step builds upon the last, and this is how trust develops, not just through information but through lived experience, through living God's faithfulness. And every time we obey God and discover He was with you all along, your trust deepens, your spirit grows stronger. And your brain learns that uncertainty does not equal danger. And slowly your life becomes anchored in something deeper than just circumstances. And that's why God takes us through these seasons of walking by faith and not by sight, because that's how we can handle the next step. That's how we can handle the next trial, because faith grows. It's like a muscle. The more we use it, the more we exercise it, and the more it grows. I want to encourage you today that if you're in a season where you cannot see the whole path, let me tell you something important. You are not lost. You're being invited into a deeper level of faith. This is the best place to experience the miraculous hand of God. Because how would we experience God's glory and miraculous hand if we wouldn't need faith, if we wouldn't be going through a trial. Only by going through trials we can experience God's miraculous hand. You know, He is not withholding information or the blueprint from us because He wants to frustrate us. He's leading us step by step So that we can learn how to trust Him more and more, so that our faith can grow. Because if He showed us the entire journey at once, we might try to take control of it. But when He shows us step by step, we learn to walk with Him. We do not need to see the whole staircase. We only need to see one step at a time. And when we take that step, our faith grows, our mind renews, and our life begins to reflect the glory of God. So friend, if you are are in one of those seasons right now, know that God is with you. Know that God is leading you, and know that your obedience is producing massive fruit in the spirit. And that when Kairos and Nexus converge, you will see the manifestation of those promises and the breakthrough that you are waiting for. So let me pray for you. Lord Jesus, I thank you. Lord Jesus, thank you for all the people that are listening To the sound of my voice right now, God. I thank you for their faithfulness and their obedience to your word and to your instructions. God, I pray that you would bless them for their obedience. God, Deuteronomy 28 speaks about the blessings of obedience, God, and how we will be blessed when we go out and we come in, how we will be blessed, how we are the head and not the tail, how we are Above and not beneath, and how we are the lenders and not the borrowers, God, and that the fruit of our wombs will be blessed, and that everything that concerns us will be blessed if we obey. We know that you bless obedience, God, because obedience is better than sacrifice. And so I pray for my friends right now that are listening, and they are right now into a situation that they need to make a decision, or you are asking them to take a step of faith. I pray, God. That they would be obedient and not miss out on these blessings that You have for them, God. So I pray that You empower them, strengthen them, God, and that You will bless them for every step that they take towards Your will. In the name of Jesus, amen and amen.
