Ryan Maloney walks through adding barcodes to self-published hardcover books printed in China. You need an ISBN from myidentifiers.com, generate a free barcode label online as a PNG or vector file, then print it on the cover. He skipped the price to keep pricing flexible.

Let's talk about barcodes for books. I'm currently having my hardcover books produced in China, and figuring out how to work and add the barcode on was a huge pain. Every internet article is different, the factory doesn't have any answers, and it's a big investment if you put the wrong barcode on the book. Here's what I figured out and what I'm doing with my barcodes. Every book needs an ISBN number if you're self-publishing, so you can buy them at myidentifiers.com. It's around $200 $495 for 10 ISBN numbers. Once you get the ISBN numbers, you can Google free ISBN label generator and download a PNG or a vector file of that label. Put that label on your book cover and actually print that label onto your book. Some ISBN labels have the price built into it, but I'm not putting that in there for this book run because I want the price of my book to be pretty flexible. Part 2 coming up.
