Ryan Maloney describes cramming too much into each page of his graphic novel. He made one page with a single event in a single panel and found it let him slow down and actually enjoy the work instead of rushing. Simplicity, he realized, keeps him focused and having fun.

I'm working on simplifying my graphic novel. I have a tendency to overcomplicate things and fit too many messages on one page. But today I'm working on a drawing where only one thing is happening. One single panel. I immediately notice the difference that I'm not rushing through this and I'm taking my time. Not in a lazy way. It's just easier to get in the zone when things are simple. I'm sure I'll quickly go back to overcomplicating things every now and then, but I need to remember simple lets you focus and not rush to get things done. Simple makes things more fun. That's a wrap on this page. Look for overly complicated ones in the future.
