Book barcodes for KDP: where to get them

In this instructional segment, Ryan Maloney explains two methods for acquiring an ISBN/barcode for a paperback published through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). The first method is to use the free Amazon‑provided ISBN that KDP assigns when you upload your manuscript, which he recommends for most authors because it streamlines the publishing workflow. The second method involves purchasing custom ISBNs or barcode packs from the service MyIdentifiers.com; these custom identifiers can be used in physical bookstores as well as on Amazon. When uploading a book with a self‑supplied barcode, you must check the KDP option indicating that you are providing your own barcode.
