Ryan Maloney describes his creative process: he reads constantly, overlapping books before finishing them, and loves the intoxicating rush of brainstorming ideas and characters. But he stresses that ideas mean nothing without finished work. At some point you have to stop planning and actually create.

I like to jump into a new book as soon as I finish my old one, sometimes even before it. But I find myself planning too much. The brainstorming process is sort of intoxicating. Coming up with ideas and characters is super easy, I love it. But none of it works unless you put it into a finished product that an audience can understand and enjoy. And you can't sit around and plan everything forever. Soon you have to take the leap off the edge and just start working on it and making it.
