Ryan Maloney explains why artists shouldn't expect perfect lines on the first try. Start rough, refine in layers, and use undo freely. Even when smoothing, you'll redraw lines multiple times.

Try to make perfect lines on your first pass. Build them up with rough sketches. The more solid your foundational drawing is, the easier it's going to be to put those smooth lines on top of it. Once you have your rough drawing done, then you can go back through and take a pass at the smooth lines. But even when you're doing smooth lines, know that you're going to redo these over and over, and the undo button is your friend.
