Ryan Maloney shows how to add shadows and highlights to NFT art in Procreate. Bake shadows into elements and use Darken blend mode, then use Overlay or Soft Light for highlights. Keep shadow layers at the top and avoid placing them over swappable parts like mouths, which will misalign when you change them.

Bake your shadows into the items as much as possible. For highlights, I like to choose an overlay or a soft light. Overlay gives it a warmer feel. Shadows I set to darken. Once you're on that layer and you have it set up, you can go around your entire drawing, maybe move it to the top. So I wouldn't throw shadows over top of the mouth or any items that are going to be interchangeable. Say you do shadow over this teeth and then you go to draw a different mouth, you're going to have a problem. That shadow is still going to be here and your teeth are going to be going a different way and it's going to look like a weird line.
