Ryan Maloney walks through his Procreate setup for character drawings. He imports reference sketches on a separate layer, then inks on a new layer using the Technical Pen at 40-50% streamline. He duplicates the ink layer and puts colors underneath to avoid white gaps and make cleanup easier.

Here's a look at how I set up my drawings in Procreate. After you insert a photo or your sketch, I usually draw this on paper. I have it set on one layer. You just tap the layer with two fingers and slide it down to lower the opacity. And then I will ink on a new layer. I use the Technical Pen with a streamline of around 40 to 50%, or the Studio Pen. Occasionally I use the Ink Bleed Pen. They're all under Inking. And if I'm doing realistic work, I'm using a lot of soft airbrushes. For a cartoon drawing like this, I'm going to ink with my technical pen. Once the ink is done of the whole drawing, I'll duplicate that layer and I will do the fill color on the bottom layer. That way there is no gap between the line and the color. You can see here you'll get a gap of white between the color and the fill, and it's pretty hard to go in there and clean it up. So I like to color
