Ryan Maloney shows how to combine a layered Procreate illustration with video footage in After Effects. He tracks the video's motion, parents a PSD with three depth layers to a null object, then adjusts Z-positions to create a 3D effect that moves with the scene.

How to create this 3D effect using Procreate and After Effects. First thing in Procreate is drawing an image with a frame and 3 layers on top of it: a background, a middle ground, and a foreground. Then I export that as a PSD and import it into After Effects on my computer. I also import this video footage without the 3D effect on it. With that video footage selected, go to Tracker and track the position, rotation, and scale. And you'll need to add a null object to the scene as well. Move the tracking pins to the corners of the frame and set your null as the target and hit play forward on the tracker. The pins will then track the corners of this frame. Then apply those keyframes to that null object and pin the PSD to the null object. In that PSD comp, experiment with the depth of the Z position of those layers. Back in the main comp, you can position, rotate, scale, and stretch that PSD to fit to make it look realistic like it fits in that scene. Let's chat in the comments.
