In this brief explanatory video, Ryan Maloney presents the hero’s journey as a circular structure. He divides the circle into a "normal world" (the top half) and a "bizarro world" (the bottom half). The threshold, located at the side of the circle, marks the point where the hero resists the call to adventure and does not want to cross into the unfamiliar realm. At the lowest point of the circle, the hero must let go of previous desires, discover what is truly needed, and then return to the starting point, now wiser. Chapters

You can think of the hero's journey like a circle. Your character is going to start right here. Everything in this top half of the circle is the normal world. Everything down here, bizarro world. This point right here is the threshold. This is where the characters don't want to go. They resist the call to action. They don't want to move into this world. At this bottom point, the character has to let go of everything to find what they really need instead of what they want, and to return back home right where they started, a little bit wiser than before.
