Thicken the lines of overlapped elements to match the panel border, and use the technique sparingly—just a few overlaps per page—to add energy without overwhelming the layout.

Chapters

To make things a little bit more dynamic in this graphic novel, I'm going to take my regular layout and then I'm going to overlap characters and objects over the frame. This is going to add more energy and flow to your pages and drawings. Plus, it's a lot more fun to draw. You don't have to do this on every page. A little bit goes a long way. When I do overlap the drawings, I like to thicken the lines to make them just about as thick as the frame around the drawings. I usually do this on the underside of the object or the character. Hope that helps add a little bit of energy to your drawings.
