Ryan Maloney reviews Fable.app, a web-based motion design tool built like Figma meets After Effects. It runs online with team collaboration, preset animations, and a split-layer tool that automatically divides layers, saving time over After Effects' manual duplication. Fable supports Lottie and GIF formats and could become a marketplace for animation libraries.

Motion designers, Fable is sort of like Figma meets After Effects, and this could be an After Effects killer. This is not sponsored, just an app I've been spending some time in. So what separates it from After Effects? First of all, it's totally online, highly collaborative, comments, teams, a lot of preset animations. In After Effects, you can get similar effects, but to get the good ones, you need to subscribe to something like Mr. Horse and pay monthly subscriptions. I can see Fable becoming almost like a platform where motion designers can create their own libraries and license them out. It's much more Lottie-friendly and GIF-friendly. My favorite feature is the split layer feature. When you split a layer, half the layer will remain on that layer and it will automatically stack the rest of that layer onto a new layer. And I'm confusing you now. But if you use After Effects, you know that's a huge time saver.
